Rant - PA Inspections

I just took my wife's 2014 X5 to Bobby Rahal to have four new tires installed/alignment and State/Emissions.

After waiting all day, I called the service department to see if we should come pick the car up. The SA gets on the phone, start hem-hawing and finally gets to it, it failed the state inspection.... due to painted reflectors and too wide of spacers in the back. I couldn't believe it. I've had the car there a few times with these mods on (and once for an inspection last year), with no issues. Apparently they have been dinged by the state recently.

I know these are illegal, it just chaps me that they've passed it before and now I have to go somewhere else to get it inspected. The spacers are easy enough to remove but the reflectors are a 1 time use.

On a side note, i couldn't believe the dealer was the better price for installation/alignment compared to all the local pittsburgh shops.

Why are you taking a out of warranty car to the dealer? I never have had issues passing inspection with my E90 or E36.

I have never had a dealer mount and balance tires 100%. Find a good tire shop.

Easy solution, stick these on in the location. If you need red ones they are available as well. Only use a small amount of the tape to barely hold them in place, remove after leaving dealership.

... I take my out of warranty car to the dealership all the time... and especially for inspections/emissions.
My dealer also gives me FREE inspections, with a free loaner, so yea, I can't complain. I also get the 'free' summary sheet asking me to do $2000-3000 in repairs that I always decline.

And then you get all the part numbers in one handy location!
