Somewhat after the fact perhaps but:
I don't have the cooler and lines but do have the oil filter housing with thermostat/cooler adapter plate which is a necessary component (should you by some chance still be looking for pieces. One thing I learned after the fact (of retrofitting an OEM oil cooler on my E90 335xi) was that a lot of the wheel well plastic has to be changed and that a new bracket and a very odd looking special adapter is required to correctly mount the oil cooler. Installing bracket requires removing the front clip. A giant pain in the ass. So in addition to the correct oil filter housing, oil cooler and lines, you need a $100 bracket (if ordered from FCPeuro or equivalent), new front inner wheel well liner ($60), new oil cooler ducting ($35), new brake ducting ($35), oil cooler vent plate for liner ($20) and a really stupid ass adapter for mounting the cooler beside the stupid ass bracket ($17). Also good luck figuring out which are the correct part numbers for all this crap (I know the numbers for an LCI E90 but there are a large number to guess at). Just the sort of thing a busy parts manager has plenty of time for. Anyway, it adds up unless you can get all the plastic from a wreck. All the plastic is either E90 or E92 specific and you cannot mix them. Thanks for allowing me to vent! |

I would buy/make an aftermarket kit. Better cooling and simpler. Mount behind kidney grills. You then can use an aftermarket thermostat and not have to deal with the stupid OEM one.
As far as the front clip, I can take it off in roughly 15m on my E92

Good idea!
BTW by front clip I don't mean just the bumper cover - the whole thing that covers the radiator, mounts the headlights. The bracket that I mentioned has another function which is to suspend the radiator, power steering cooler and AC condenser. So you have to fuck around with all that as well. It wouldn't take me long to do it at this point but expect a little less efficiency the first time you try it. Last edited by dpaul; 01-18-2019 at 11:25 AM.. |

The OEM cooler is better than nothing but pales in comparison to a proper aftermarket oil cooler. If I had the OEM cooler I would add another inline. If I didn't have it I would go aftermarket with a setrab oil cooler or something. Get a nice long one and it should be simple to have double or triple the OEM cooling capacity. http://www.setrabusa.com/products/oi...ine/index.html and then one of these: http://www.improvedracing.com/oil-th...tat-p-212.html Then make your bracket out of some aluminum stock, buy some nice hose and AN fittings and bamn, high quality oil cooler better than stock. The Dual ER oil cooler looks bad ass but the cost is a bit much unless you track your car...even then...there is plenty of unused space behind the front kidney grills and then you can use the area for brake ducting: http://www.evolutionracewerks.com/node/133 $1700 + tax and shipping...fuck that noise.
