Torx swivels arrived (pricey bits) and I was able to pull the OFH off and wow, that's what 15 years and 182,xxx looks like!
![]() I think/hope that is where the leak was from. Fresh oil can be seen here underneath the intake manifold but was visibly coming down the back of the housing: ![]() The VCG was supposedly done last October by PO, so going with the presumption that is from before he changed it, with a fresh layer on top from the OFHG. Here is the front end which is CRAZY gunked up. I cleaned around the VANOS when I pulled them out, but the rest is pretty much on for life unless I do some sort of power wash thing: ![]() I need to button everything up, refill and check for leaks, but I think I'm about done! There's a 50% chance I confused the VANOS solenoid wiring and accidentally swapped... Probably should have marked that better... Fingers crossed! Took off all go fast parts off and flashed the DME to stock. Drove around for a half hour to set readiness. Passed smog! Tomorrow i will put parts back on.

Replaced my driver L Logic 7 midrange. My right one had the same failure mode where it would get crackly and distorted. $20 and 30 minute fix.

If you still have your old one, theres a good chance it just needs to be reglued. I've done almost all of mine now. OEM glue got too brittle so took all of it off with a toothpick, some rubbing alcohol, and q tips and reglued it using contact cement for speakers. Put a nice sized bead all the way around to the line where the old glue was, put a thing of canned food ontop and let it sit for awhile. Been working for the last couple years so far. Though I think one of the rear ones is starting to fail.. Crackles even though theres no signs of the adhesion breaking
