Compared with COTA last year. First live event in area after covid restrictions.

140,000 on race day.

This is of course the first year in a long long time that both the FIA director and the F1 race director are both persons that don't have roots in F1 (Ben Sulayem is a rally man, Wittich a DTM man).
Maybe previous directors (Todt, Mosley, Masi, Whiting, Ecclestone) were more aware that F1 drivers can be real snowflakes and walked that line differently. (note: it's not a new rule, it's just enforcing it more stricktly)

Drivers wear some personal items for commercial reasons (sponsored items) and some for strictly personal reasons (wedding, family, religion, superstition, etc.). Most want to have those items on board with them.

If FIA is determined to keep the 'no jewelry' rule, IMHO it could resolve the matter with this compromise:
  • except for dedicated racing gear and necessary items (for example glasses or contact lenses), drivers wear no personal items whenever inside the car for an FIA event;
  • drivers are allowed to wear personal items at all times when outside the car;
  • subject to approval by FIA (for safety reasons) teams are allowed installing a dedicated small 'locker' under the race seat, only for storage of personal items.
That way, drivers have the possibility to have their personal items with them on board without the risk of those items becoming a hazard for them in the event of an accident (drivers assume the risk of loss).

“It was very important to us to offer a great event,” said Garfinkel, justifying wild expenses like the much-derided ‘fake harbour’.
So that fake harbour..... stickerfoil with waterprint.... was a wild expense?

But to be fair, the FIA can technically do whatever they want. This is the same FIA that stole a championship from Senna.
i think the FIA secretly hoped Gasly would crash there so they can inspect his cock (in Gasly's own words)

haha by Senna you mean Sir Lewis?

Come on, folks. Let's keep it respectful.

Sir Lewis Hamilton is generally known as a kind person, a great sportsman and a living F1 legend.

And even if you would personally believe that he is none of that: please respect his personal choice of clothes and jewelry - I am convinced that he will do the same regarding you.

Moderating this forum must be difficult - I can't imagine how many triggered LH fans hit the report button every day.
