Perpetually logging with MHD
Is it possible to put a tablet or other device in the glove box and have it always logging data via MHD (or other app) whenever the ignition is on?

Why do this? You're going to collect a fuck ton of extraneous data you don't need. If you need to log start up or idle, just do that. Otherwise turn on automatic logging when you cross like 50% throttle?

Think of a dash cam that's recording all the time. 99.9999% of video it's collecting is useless, but the one time something goes wrong, or you want to do a double take of something interesting, it's incredibly valuable.
Similar thought with logging engine data constantly, to capture the moment something goes wrong. If your only logging WOT, that's like .1% of the time (granted mostly likely when something will go wrong). An example, my engine will hiccup completely randomly just puting around town, sometimes not for weeks, and I've never been able to capture it to look into it further. Or on the freeway in ideal conditions, the motor will start to buck. Again, totally random and of course I'm never logging when it happens. I think a set it and forget it logging capability would be neat, but I suspect not easily achievable. |

If you're referring to the very common surging that happens infrequently and randomly while cruising, it's been talked about here quite in depth.
Do you have your gauges up when this happens? Do your AFRs and STFTs fluctuate as it "bucks"? If so, it is due to the catalyst diagnostic routine. SOLVED: N54 Oscillating throttle position/surge at steady speed https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1784365
