Brake Pad Replacement Warning - Possibly from SSTT???

I currently have 5600mi on my e92 and about 1500mi since I put on the SSTT. Two days ago the warning message came on that I needed to replace my brakes pads, so I thought that maybe a sensor was mulfunctioning that set it off. I took it to BMW today to have it checked out and they said that something was out of whack with the DTC module and they would have to work on it tomorrow. I'll hear from tomorrow, but I'm getting nervous that they might be able to identify that something has been altered. Could the SSTT possibly set something off???

As long as the SSTT is out right now you have nothing to worry about. Just play ignorant and act like you don't know what could have caused it....

Good. You honestly have nothing to worry about then. Like all piggybacks, it will leave no evidence that you had it in.

G/L with it, and hopefully it gets fixed soon....

Brake pad replacement error is a common problem with the e92. Faulty sensors or some jazz. I've had the warning for 1k miles or so, I'm just riding it out until I have to go in for service soon.

Yea happened to me a week ago reset it like this http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...rake+reset+DIY

Got the light to go away, but your millage on the pads will reset.

I THOUGHT BMW used variable wear sensors. But maybe not.

I got that warning when my vehicle had around 1000 miles on the odometer! Dealer took care of it in less than an hour...I'll have to look at the invoice when I get my car back in a day or so.

Same thing happened to me at 400 miles. All they did was reset the cluster and that was it.

Mine is due for service because of the brake light. 3900 miles and one SSTT. Surely it's not the SSTT!!!

I have had this warning 3 times. I normally do what ocha has recommended. However, by resetting your brake light warning this way, you also reset all of your service needs and it will refelct when they(THE SERVICE DEPT.) read your key. If you have a lease and your oil changes are included it will effect you, I just had this happen. Take it to the dealer and have them do it!

I see no logical connection between the SSTT and your situation.

It has nothing to do with being an adolecent. It has EVERYTHING to do with not getting fucked by your dealer's service guy making some bullshit story up and relating his issue with something that couldn't possibly cause the problem to avoid paying a warranty claim. Nothing more, nothing less.

I've had this problem for MONTHS. I took it to the dealer 3 times with no success. They tried everything: re-program the car, reseting everything, etc. Nothing! The warning kept coming back after 2-300 miles of driving.

So now, they told me I have to wait for a BMW NA tech to come down and inspect the car.

I went through this 3 times in 10k miles. Its not worth resetting on your own for two reasons A) what someone else stated, it resets all your other service indicators also and B) you WANT this stuff on file so it can help you claim lemon law if you need to. If you reset the light 5 times and never take it in once, youll have a harder time telling them that its happened before and you want a new car.

Needless to say, everytime I took my car in for it I left my piggyback on. Theres no way that a brake sensor that BMW knows is faulty could be caused by a mod. Every service manager I spoke to(3 different dealerships) laughed when I casually asked him if my warranty could be voided for it. They all said its a part known to have issues and its all around the country regardless of mileage or mods.

Don't know what to tell you other then your doing it wrong. You can only reset one at a time and you would dam sure know if you went through all 8 of them.

What the heck could the SSTT have to do with a low brake pad warning light>? Answer: NOTHING
