$800 for TPMS from dealership?!?

Hey everyone. I recently purchased a set of OEM style 269s....replacing my 230s (will keep both sets).

Anyways, I ordered some OEM TPMS from Jlevi, which cost me about $160/set of four. I think that is a very fair price. I recently spoke to my SA and told him what I was planning to do (using sames tires but switching out the wheels). He recommended getting a new set of TPMS instead of trying to use the current set b/c he said they are easy to break if you try to remove them. Of course, I already knew that and bought a set from Jlevi. Bottom line: Out of curiosity, I asked him how much a set of TPMS would cost. He quoted me $800/set! WTF?!??! Either:

1. I'm getting a good deal from Jlevi and the stealership is fu*%ing nuts.
2. You get what you pay for and I'm going to get TPMS that will not work properly from Jlevi. But, Jlevi has been such good sponsors and I trust that they wouldn't sell something to fanatics that don't work as described.

Thoughts?

Beru OEM TPMS run about $160-$200 for the set online and about $400 from the dealer. $800 is too much.

Thank you for the verification. Yeah, I figured $800 was WAY TOO MUCH. I owe this site and its members/sponsors a lot of $$$ from all the $$$ that I've saved with just a little research

He could have been quoting you the new 2010 TPMS which have an increase in price of about $60/corner. I wouldn't be surprise the dealer will mark them up to $800 for the set.

Glad to be of help.

Jlevi has the best price I've seen so far at $39 a pop - and I believe they're exactly the same as OEM minus the BMW logo...

I was also quoted $800 plus tax for 4 OEM Beru units from the dealer for my summer wheels. Already knew they were about $200 online, but wanted them quickly so I stopped by the dealer to see what they wanted. It was all I could do not to laugh in the guy's face. Quoting over four times the price other dealers/vendors offer the same part for is borderline insulting.

The sensors we carry are the same BERU units BMW sources and labels as their own so your dealer is paying for that coffee machine in the waiting room with their price. And if your local, we offer you coffee too

Thanks Nick. I just received the set of four TPMS from you guys. Great price BTW. Way to look out for fanatics Yeah, my SA was shocked when I told him that I was able to get the set for under $200. He was almost suggesting that I probably got some knockoffs and that I'd better be careful. Anyways, can't wait to get the new wheels mounted.

I guess you'll get raped on both the West Coast and East Coast. I am a business man also, so I understand that businesses have to make money to survive. BUT damn, $800 versus $160. That's just outrageous!

BTW guys,
If I go elsewhere to have the wheels mounted and balanced, will I still have to go to the dealership to have the TPMS reset/reprogram?

No need, you can reset the TPMS with iDrive. Check out the Owners Manual to do this. It's very simple and takes a few minutes.

You can do it through the left control stalk. Flick the tab up a few times until you see the TPMS light, then hit the end of the stalk to confirm the reset. Twiddle your thumbs for a few mins and continue on.
