fast forward on cd player question

i don't have i-drive, and i can't figure out how to fast forward within a song on my cd player. if i hit the forward or backwards button, it skips a whole track at a time. is there a way to fast forward, say, 10 seconds or something within an individual song? thanks.

on idrive, the only way to do it is to use the steering wheel controls. not sure if it is the same without idrive.

HOLD the forward and back button.

Alternatively, push the button labeled "m" between the two. This puts it on manual mode...and lets you search through the tracks.

Instead of "hitting" the button, what if you press it in and hold it in?

thanks. i'll try holding it in.

as for pushing the "m" first, when i do that, it skips 10 tracks at a time when i push the forward or backward buttons.

Took me a while to figure out b/c it works differently from the CD players on my 3 previous Bimmers. Simply press and hold the fwd or rev arrow keys (like you have to press and hold the "1" button to get * on the phone keypad function). On mine, if one presses "m" then presses fwd or rev arrow keys (this is how you advance within a track on the older models) then it advances/goes back 5 tracks. Kinda weird if you ask me, but hey, I just drive the thing.

is there a way to PAUSE a song played from an audio CD or an MP3 CD? i couldn't figure that one out so i constantly have to mute the whole thing while the song is still playing when i want to listen to the engine for a bit or just to talk to my girl in the car.

yep, it's called the off button...
it'll play back from where you left off when you turn it on again

Isnt the standard in the audio world to hold the next track button where a skim button is not present?

hmm...that's like turning the engine off every time i want to stop at a stop sign... one would figure they'd include a play/pause button or a control in iDrive.

Yes this is normally the case. This is how I normally look at it.

Why use two buttons when one suffices? The only possible disadvantage that I can see is you don't get traffic information while it's turned off, which you might do if there was a pause function. Apart from that a second button would be overkill. Putting a pause button in iDrive would mean that you'd have to navigate to it if you weren't in the entertainment screen at the time. As it is, the button is right there to hand where you need it. I hardly think you can relate pressing a button, which does just what you're asking for, to turning the engine off.
