I've seen that ISTA screen, its under ECU functions IIRC and one of the "engine running" tests. I've never run it, though.

Phil be interested to know if the light load/cruise misfire you mentioned in my thread is resolved now - not sure if you remember it but I was asking if it was the nox trap clearning out and you replied yours does something similar, feels like its running lean.
I was initially thinking of fitting new seals and selling them. But as they've all now been condemned on ISTA, in all conscience I can't do that.

On the light load misfire, TBH I've not noticed it for some time. Not done anything to rectify it though. If it returns I will let you know.

Not sure, I didn't query that. One of the faulty injector symptoms was that idle speed dropped. So I guess that could affect alternator speed and hence charging rate..?

How did they check the condition of injectors? its a very complicated procedure. its not just by checking for rough running or misfires. also, is your car running in stratified charge ? any lambda errors on scanner? Did they made new adaptations for the injectors?. im happy index 12 from n54 is and option for n53

In answer to your questions:
  • I'm sorry I don't fully understand how the diagnostic software works, but part of it is by varying the fuel supply to each injector in turn. That's about all I know.
  • Yes, I'm confident my car is running in stratified charge. The fuel economy (which has always been ridiculously good) is unchanged with the new injectors.
  • No lambda errors.
  • Yes, the new injectors were coded in using the calibration values printed on each injector.

Hope that helps...

Just what is different about index 12 isn't entirely clear to me. From what I've gleaned, the index 12 version may have an internal filter and optimised thermo-compensating oil over the previous version.

But the situation is confusing because it seems BMW introduced an 'index 12.5' if you will, with a new part number for the S63 engine, but that part number is no longer available (according to RealOEM). So I assume the changes to index '12.5' were incorporated into the existing index 12 part number and the new number withdrawn.

You can get the fuller picture here (start at 16:00):

but bear in mind this vid is from 2018 and I think the situation may have changed again since...

What kind of consuption do you get, i get 8L/100km on highway with travel speed 130-140 km/h,and 10.5L/100km in city.Although my car hasnt seen stratified charge for years probably,my consuption also didnt change with new injectors,i think it has been running quite good with consuption even without stratified charge. Now to your answers. As i mentioned if your adaptations were made i didnt think the coding of injectors. But actual adaptations of fuel trims etc. MSD80 can re-learn injecting and other stuff and an run even smoother. I suggest reding of this: https://bimmerprofs.com/re-adaptation-engine/

I get 5L/100km on the highway (120kph) and 7.3L/100km around town. I doubt that the adaptations you mentioned were done.

Yes, for a 3L six cylinder I'm mightily impressed. Gives me 900km from a tank, which is great for long journeys.

I don't have INPA so no.

I still have the OEM BMW NOx sensor - replaced once during my ownership.

Hi,
I am new to the E9x community so this is my first post, bought my e92 325i in August last year. I am also being plagued by faulty injectors and am also affected by the N53 injector shortage.
I was just wondering how you're getting on with your N54 injectors before I order some myself?

Yes, all good so far. Not done many miles yet obviously, but no issues to date! Good luck. If you go with N54 injectors, try Cotswold BMW. They do a discount for forum members and were significantly cheaper (saved me £150 on a set of six).

Hi Phil I know it hasn't been too long but how are the index 12 running. I can't wait for the back log and I've been waiting since September last year. Done a service recently and on of my spark plays were fully black. I've also changed my hpfp couple months ago. I went to p&r bmw and they done all the test hour talking about and they told me that all 6 injectors do need to be replaced. I want to go for the index 12 because I can't wait. Would you mind letting me know how much bmw charged you with the discount and how's the car running atm

Hi. Car is running just fine. I recommend not only having the injectors coded to the DME, but also clearing all adaptations. I didn't do the clearing at first and the idle was a bit unstable. Once the adaptations were cleared and the engine had done its re-learning, all was good.

I bought my injectors from Cotswold BMW who do a discount for members of this forum, and had them fitted by my trusted indy, not BMW. Cotswold charged me a total of £1221.11 for six injectors and six decoupling elements.

https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1205159

Edit: once your new injectors are in, I would do an oil and filter change. Oil dilution from fuel leaking past the pistons overnight is a known issue.

Phil I've got another question for you. Are you located in London. If not do you know any Indy garages in London that can do this job

No I'm not in London, but in the wider London area I would recommend A1BN of Stevenage.

Car still running fine for you? We received a stock of N54 injectors here in Estonia (were supposed to be N53 which I needed for my 325i) but if yours still work fine, I am willing to take a plunge and try N54 ones out.

Yes all still good. Would definitely recommend clearing adaptations though. Helps to achieve a smooth idle.
