Additives?

As anybody used fuel or oil additives to cure a certain problem and found that it worked. Are they useles or helpful? I thought our shopping car had noisy tappets and tried an additive which did not help. I gave it some more thought and decided that the injectors were the problem but a fuel additive did not help.Anybody?

Tough one this ideally using decent fuel not letting the tank get too low re level is the best remedy for preventing issues though nothing is guaranteed but when you have an issue depends on the severity of the problem as to whether a particular issue could be cured.

If you look at injector cleaners for instance on diesels we find these can help a little but usually feel if the problems in place the problem itself msy hsve gone a little too far. We do find on say a DPF issue that when we use a specific DPF cleaner along with a diesel injector cleaner when carrying out a live road re gen the results are more than satasfactory.

On petrols again injector cleaners prove to give in different results. By this I mean on modern cars with modern injectors people think a cleaner will solve an issue where a lot of the time these keen cars end up having injector issues where no cleaner will be able to solve a modern failed / carbonised injector.

Oil fortifiers for instance I've seen mixed results again depends on the severity of the engine issue and how long it's been going on for.

Additives you can buy from places like Halfords v specific branded additives for the trade like Forte or TunAp products is another poser, it's a bit like Tesco's own brand Cola v Pepsi I guess, when we speak to the specialists they are quite specific re whst they offer v the stuff you as a consumer can buy from the motoring store. This is a tough one but if you hsve an issue personally if it doubt get it checked out thoroughly rather than relying on an additive if I'm honest.
