Do you mean boost from the turbos....

John 070 - I do not know if this was boost from the turbos. My work office is less than 10 miles from my house and I take side streets to get there so I didn't notice anything different when I brought it in for the brake flush and recall. Per the paper work it was after they replaced the HPFP and the tech went on a test drive did it state "no boost" and they traced it to the part that was replaced.

Don't mean to hijack thread here but have a few ?'s regarding reliability for '07 335i. I previously had leased a '07 335i sedan and drove it for 2 years, loved it. I turned it in and now drive an Audi but have found a good deal on a '07 335i coupe near where I live. Having just gone through a hpfp, camshaft, follower problem with Audi and FINALLY having them cover it and fix it, I thought I would see what kind of problems if any the 335i's are having since I have not been in one for 2 years now. When I did have the car it had to go in for a blown cylinder caused by a malfunction of 1 or 2 of the injectors. After that the car was fine but I only drove it up to 38k miles. I have been reading bout the hpfp problem and recall here. Would like to know if there are any other known problems that I should be concerned about and look for as far as what has been serviced on for the car. The car I am interested in is a '07 335i with 52k miles, great condition but out of manufacturers warranty and for sale from an independent auto dealer, not bmw certified. Just don't want to get into a car I really would like to drive but then have big repair bills. The Audi is finally fixed and driving well but Those 335i's are fun as hell.

Hopefully you will let a E60 owner share his story here.....

Wife took her 2010 535 (7300 miles), into dealer for seat sensor issue. Low and behold
when she picked up car, they had done a HPFP replacement. We had no issues with vehicle to this point. Earlier in the year they had a done a "software" upgrade as part of the recall, and at that point said this was all that was needed.

As is turns out we got a 446 exchange high pressure pump
770 ASA Bolt
LP sensor tested, not changed
Injectors scanned, no change required.

This was done under dcs message 00 59 082 / DC 0013 98 01 00

Got the car back late Friday afternoon, after driving maybe 25 miles , on Saturday afternoon, car was shaking, vibrating, and finally died in the middle of an intersection. Restarted car, really rough trying to get home, and again, died in another intersection. Restarted and finally got it home. Have the engine icon light illuminated.

Will go to dealer tomorrow.

Couple of questions, because I do not know anything about these engines.....when the HPFP is replaced, are the injectors removed then reattached? Also, if injectors are removed, and are not installed in the same location, do they have to be calibrated?

Just wondering if this could be a reassemble issue/technician issue......or something else.
In reading these boards, it appears the 446 pump is a rebuilt pump. BMW says the dealer could also use parts 933 or 170 from their respective centers supply if was a time critical case. So I am guessing 933 and 170 are new pumps, and the 446 is rebuilt.

Anyway....I thought I would post here, as it seems to have the most activity recently of any of the boards with regard to HPFP's

^ Sorry for your added difficulties.

As to the HPFP/injectors, the work is done entirely independently of each.

If any of the injectors are replaced then the flow rate of the individual injector has to be entered into the ECU. I doubt they would have changed the cylinder location of the injectors they scanned because it would have added that additional step.

twssas, I had work done on my car(335) and they had to remove the injectors during the process of working on the car. When I go the car back I had similar troubles and called the dealer. They told me they forgot to recalibrate the injectors. Not sure if that is what is happening with yours but if it is, that is a simple one to fix

Quisp, that is good to know. I took the car to the dealer today and dropped it off. I plan on being there in the morning when they open. I did not want to deal with traffic on a monday morning with this vehicle. A good thing too.....it died on me 4 times in less than 7 miles.

Guess I will find out tomorrow. Thanks again for your feedback.

Just picked up the car. Here the story: Apparently during the reassembly process, the crankcase vent hose was incorrectly installed. The crankcase hose going to the throttle body was reattached and the fault cleared. So......for the time being....the new HPFP is ok.......but time will tell.

hey guys i have a question i just got a call from my dealership asking me to go in for a recall, i have 2011 335i with about 5k miles on it, no problems or whatsoever at all, should i bring it in the dealer for the recall or leave it as it is? thanks...

In theory the 2011 models are not part of the official recall. Your dealer may be looking for warranty $$$. Have him run the VIN to be sure your vehicle is part of the recall.

That said there is no evidence that the current 446 HPFP used for the recalls is a cure for the chronic HPFP failures... as the 446 HPFPs have also been failing in as little as a few months.

yea i called and they told me it had nothing to the with the fuel pumps it was just some re programing update...

Yeah, I just had the recall work done on my car. I have never had an issue with the HPFP (car now has 90K miles) and it kind of worries me that I had to have it replaced. I just believe in the old saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it."

Also had 5 of 6 injectors replaced for the separate recall.

ECU was also reflashed. The car definitely feels more responsive and stronger than before.

I love this car to death, but sometimes I love my E36 325 more-the simplicity and sportiness of it all. I can change the injectors, plugs, etc myself with no issue or having to code the the car to recognize the parts.

Just got my 07 335xi last month and it has 19K miles on it. Should I assume it probably had the recall work done already? Should I call a dealer and have them run my vin?

Wouldn't hurt to check with a dealer. Sometimes the hpfp recall work is noted on a sticker placed on the underside the hood.

so what is the "correct" new part number for the better pump, apparently mine was done just before i bought the car with the 446 pump which i'm told id just a rebuilt version on the one that keeps breaking anyway(good job bmw)

someone said there is a NEW fuel pump part number that is supposed to be alot better than the last ones

About time they did a recall on those. There's more threads on BMW forums about this damn HPFP than anything else. Other than that we all love our n54's and even though they are rating n55 the best engine in production, I will stick to tuning a much easier and upgrade susceptible i6tt.
