Limped home today

Car was a bit jerky this morning then flogging it onto the M7 it started misfiring and went into limp mode.
Pulled these codes. newest to oldest
29D0 MME - misfire cylinder 4
29D1 MME - misfire cylinder 5
29D2 MME - misfire cylinder 6
29F1 - DME fuel pressure plausibility
2A2C - DME mixture control 2
30BB DME injectors 4, 5, 6 or DME internal fault.

Seems like a Mosfet issue???? What do you think? I am pretty handy with a soldering gun. Where to source Mosfets?

Cool Mosfet link

Unlucky mate.

These are the ones I used: DME MOSFET

They can't be desoldered/resoldered with a regular soldering iron - need a special hot air soldering iron (Hot air rework station).

I had mine replaced by a guy out in Seven Hills (I'll try track down his info for you) - however my DME didn't last long after that, and ended up replacing it with a MSD81.

Thanks MY BM
I live in Glenhaven so Seven Hills is close.
I see there is an electronics repair guy in Castle Hill too.
Who reprogrammed your MSD81?

The bills are starting to rack up. I should probably replace the coils at the same time and I know I have mismatched injectors. The rear main is leaking when I park on my steep driveway. I am thinking about a F series 340i or maybe a 440i but I fear that they won't be as fast as my modded 335 so I will end up modding that too. Plus I have an amazing sound system in my 335.....

I sent my DME down to Vincent Lim in Melbourne and he reprogrammed it for me - very helpful guy!

I have driven a tuned m140i (same motor as the 340/440 the B58), very quick car and drives beautifully!

Thanks for the info.

The 140 does 0 to 100 in 4.6 seconds. That is pretty quick.
I recon a JB4 and downpipes will get close to 4.0.

I upgraded to a MSD81 see page 205 in my build thread (mod 116). Vince provides some technical info in post 4499 on the same page. Def worth seeing if Vince can help you out with this.

Bought 6 MosFets and had them soldered by the guy in Seven Hills. Installed the DME this morning and NOT GOOD. It has an obvious misfire and was throwing misfire codes for all cylinders. It settled down a bit but is still throwing these codes and has a misfire:
29D1 - DME: Combustion misfires cylinder 5.
2E31 - DME: Fuel injector, cylinder 2, activation.

I checked that everything was seated and tested all the MOSFETS on both boards.

Could the misfire be because the plug got very wet when the coils weren't firing?
The Fuel injector code beats me.

Neither of these codes was there before today.

Not sure if Vtl got in touch with you but he did mention that soldering does not always work. Likely whatever was causing the problem is still there. Given most of the codes relate to the DME, the easiest fix would be to replace the with MSD81. Vtl can def help with the coding if you go this route

Hi
I have continuity between mosfet drain and injector. Injector shows around 150k ohms resistance like the two on either side of it. Injector is definitely not firing because removing the connector on top of the injector does nothing to worsen the misfire. Here is the best part these are my injector indexes 6-6-6-9-9-5.

What is next?
Swap injector 2 and 1 and see if the misfire moves? If it does then we know it's injector. Replace all injectors. Where from?

If the misfire stays at number 2 after swapping injectors we know it's in the DME. Then ?

Yes swapping the injectors around is a good way of checking if its a faulty injector. Running mixed indexes is not ideal but should not be major problem below index 10 afaik. If you are going to replace one or more, index 12 are much more affordable then they use to be or you should be able to pick up some index 10s for cheap. Either way they will need programming to work optimally with your engine. Good luck mate. Hope you are back up and running soon

Well. I swapped out the injectors and the issue remained on cylinder 2 so it is not the injectors. Checked the wiring. All good. Opened the dme and blindly compared reading between the cylinders with an ohm meter. Cylinder 2 had an open circuit between the two outside legs of the mosfet. The other all showed 33Mohms. Will be taking it back to auto-electrician to take a look.

I see ecs has a set of injectors for $1,498. It does not include the seals (according to some comments on their website). If one buys the injectors with seals fitted they come with a collar that prevents the seal from expanding. This is removed prior to installation. If one purchases the seals separately, does one require the seal "crimping" tool to do the install?

If you are installing new seals at the bottom of the injector, then yes you need a "tool" to shrink the seals down to their intended size, like this; https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-1...hoCXRQQAvD_BwE

Pretty sure most new injectors will come with the seals and cap already installed
