Autocross events in SoCal?

Any autocross events in SoCal in the next two months? I'm bummed I missed Fontana - it was going to be my first in this car.

Are there less formal get togethers in sanctioned parking lots or something around the LA area, where we can have an opportunity to get together almost any weekend? Given the minimal space requirements, I've got to imagine it's possible.

Thanks for any info!

I got a heads-up yesterday that BMW CCA LA Chapter will conduct its first auto-x of the season in February. I suspect the majority of the LA Chapter events are going to occur at CA Speedway in the large parking lot. We are waiting for San Diego to publish their schedule so we can be sure not to conflict but look for an event in February.

Keep an eye on http://www.bmwclubla.org/calendar.php for the final date.

Any of you that are interested in volunteering to help run the events should shoot me a PM. The Club is a volunteer organization and we can't make these events happen without your support and hard work!

The Orange Coast PCA runs an autox just about once a month at the El Toro Marine Base Feb - Dec. I've been running with them the last 2 years in a Cayman and have really enjoyed it. You usually get about 12-15 runs on a 60-75 sec coarse. Overall they are a great group of people and there are usually a handful of SCCA national champs running at each event.

Non-Porsche cars are allowed and you don't have to be a PCA member, but preference is gived to PCA members if the event fills up. The schedule for next year is not up yet, but will be soon (pcaocr.org).

I'll probably check out some of the LA BMW CCA autox events next year as well. I thought about volunteering to help out, but I've gotten pretty heavily involved helping with the PCA autox events and also go to the track about once a month or so, so I don't really have time to add another group at the moment.

Thanks. I'll check the PCAOCR site.

Hah! A Cayman was on my list, except that I needed at least 3 seats. Must be fun!

Looks like Saturday Feb 2nd will be the first LA BMWCCA autox at Cal speedway. I'll probably be there in my M3. Anyone else?

I'm hoping to attend this event. I have never done an auto cross event or any driving courses. Is there any other information I need?

Welcome and I look forward to meeting you there!

All you need to bring is your enthusiasm and willingness to learn. The club supplies everything else (except the car). Some guy (or lady) in a yellow shirt will jump into your car before your first run. Do whatever he/she says.

Make sure to put about 38 psi in all of your tires and torque your lug bolts. You need a full sump of oil and a clean windshield. The club has a few loaner helmets if you want one (although using your own certainly is nicer). Bring a check and be prepared to join the BMW CCA (please use my name as the person who referred you).

When you arrive (try to get there by 7:00) take everything out of your car. Nothing loose inside at all. Go to the registration table and then to tech. There a nice volunteer will ensure that your car is safe to run. Place your number stickers where timing (read ME) can see them and then watch carefully.

At some point you will get your first run. Take your time...be patient. Speed will come as the day progresses. If you get an opportunity to ride with one of the instructors, do so. That is an experience to remember!!

If at any time you need help or have questions please feel free to look for me. I will be under the timing tent most of the day.

People are there to help you so ask questions and talk to the more experienced folks. The Club has a bunch of really nice folks so I suspect you will really enjoy yourself!

You can also pre-register by filling out the form available under the "Autocross - 2008 # 1" area of:

http://www.bmwclubla.org/calendar.php

and then faxing or emailing to the contact listed there.

I'll see you guys there!
