Like he said.

IMO, If you want to compare driving skills alone, leaving it out sounds best, although there may not even be exact competitor equipment matches in either case. If you're just planning on putting it back in the minute afterwards, I'd say leave it in and learn how it changes things.

You've done a lot more auto-x'ing than me, but I'm in a similar boat - having auto-x'd a stock 335i before (not mine) and am really interested in learning the difference in the slight mods I've made. Even if I run worse, say by engaging traction control too much, the way I see it, I've learned something that will affect the way I drive the car as its normally set up...

My two cents, anyway.

About half the spots already taken...should be a sell out.

The timing equipment is all tested and working properly! We are running the timer all day this season so people can measure their improvement.

This is another call for volunteers. We really appreciate those of you who have already agreed to work all day. The club really needs to infuse some fresh blood into this program so we are searching for people who will commit to volunteering all season long. Since the Club is an all volunteer organization we can't make events happen without the hard work of our workers.

Also if anybody knows of any suitable parking lots we could use please let me know. We are always in the market for new venues. Hollywood Park has declined allowing these events in the future. Irwindale was a disaster. Thoughts everybody????

I've been running autoxs with the PCA for about 2 years at the El Toro Marine base on the runways. There is a lot of space and the surface is pretty good.

I would just go there. Based on your question I will talk to the committee about posting confirmed entrants on the Club web site. Thanks for the idea!

Accepting volunteers who just want to watch this time? I'd have to leave around 4:30 to get there at 6:00.

Of course! We really need the help and always appreciate eager volunteers! Maybe we will even buy you lunch...

I think the perks for volunteers are that they also will have track time.

Is this "rain or shine"? For a tight auto-x course, I'm guessing not - but, would love to hear otherwise.

Next Saturday currently has a 10% chance of rain, according to weather.com.

Ugh...We have run in the rain in the past. Other times we have canceled the event due to rain. It all depends on how heavy the rain and how bad the lot is. The one we canceled was at Irwindale and the lot was a lake of floating debris. I remember being out there in the dark, freezing, trying to sweep water and trash off the lot. Not one of my fondest auto-x memories for sure.

Denny's at 4AM...I remember in my young, single, pre-kid days Denny's at 4AM was the end of a night, not the start of a day.

I'm going to leave between 5:30 and 6 from the Nard. What with the report of all the extra CHP presence on the roads, think I'll just cruise it and enjoy my cup of joe.

Anyone have an actuall address I can plug into my GPS unit?

Here's an announcement that went out to the bmwclubla@yahoogroups.com email list recently, that provides a couple more tidbits of information, for anyone interested.

----------

Several spots still available for this Saturdays Autocross! Pre-Register to guarantee your spot!!

We run RAIN or SHINE!

Location: California Speedway, Cherry Ave, Fontana. (Autocross lot is outside the actual speedway track in a dedicated lot, enter thru Main gate off of Cherry and proceed to far side of property - look for BMWs)
Date: Saturday, Feb. 2
Time: Gates open at 7AM, Mandatory Drivers Meeting at 8:30AM
Registration form available at www.bmwclubla. org.

What's required:
* Good Attitude
* Vehicle in proper working order (no leaks, loose parts, clean interior, etc..)
* $65 to participate (CASH ONLY on Saturday)
* Helmets available to rent for only $10
* Lunch is included with each registration. (xtra lunches for guests are available for $8)

If you are new to High Performance Driving, this is a great way to get involved. Autocross events are great places to learn and enhance car control skills. Relatively low speed, no traffic or obstacles, instructors to help you, and great fun to compete against the clock! Good driving and low times may even earn you a trophy to brag about!

We may sell out this event in advance, as pre-registrations have been coming in steadily this week! In case you missed it, we are offering pre-registration this year, with the ability to pay by credit card. The registration form can be found on our website (www.bmwclubla. org).

Day of the event, on site registrations are limited and are CASH only, no checks or credit cards.

Remember, we run RAIN or SHINE, so plan accordingly. .

Hope to see you there,
Mike Webb
