Nice work dude!

Is the issue resolved?

I wouldn't have suspected it would be your starter if you had issues once the car was warm?

I thought all the cool kids were using ngk's these days?

So far, so good.. It's been 2 weekends of instant starts.. I suffered 3 weekends of calling NRMA

That was the reason i didn't purchase it straight away, it didn't really make sense to me! The thought process with the car being hot made me lean more towards bad earthing..

I'm not cool enough for NGK's mate... The stock bosch have served me well with no issues at all.. I don't want to have to fuss about gapping if i don't have to.

Good to hear that it's resolved your issue so far! Yeah it doesn't really make sense does it...

Ahh ok I thought at your power levels going to a step colder woukd benefit? I just stayed with OEM BMW plugs...

How many kays had those plugs done? Looks nice and clean, noticed some oil on some of the plugs you've done vc and gasket right?

That bolt that goes though the bell housing has to be removed when the transmission is removed. I used a flex head 3/8" ratchet with the correct etorx socket. That was a massive pain in the ass as the ratchet wouldn't stay square and would go wonky and I rounded the head of the bolt, but luckily managed to break it free with all my finger strength holding it square.

Luckily the bolt wasn't aluminium on mine (didn't think it was on any model?), just replaced my bolt afterwards with a fresh one and all good.

Plugs have done approx ~15K km's.. I noticed the oil on my plugs also, and i have done VC and gasket, but with those same plugs installed.

Yeah, the boys at Advan said the exact same thing - they normally get to that bolt with the car on the hoist and a melody of extensions to reach that bolt.. I knew if i rounded the head i was in strife, so i didn't even persist with the etorx socket.

They are definitely aluminium, both the existing and new ones.

Hmm something to check again next time I guess!

Like you I havent pulled my plugs since I've done the VC and gasket (I'll get a few more years out of mine yet with the limited kays I do) but before installed the new VC, the spark plug well had a fair amount of oil pooling in down on the plug

No idea how they get to it from underneath, it's up above the trans with no access from below...

Yeah apparently possible with a ton of wobbly extensions from the rear of the transmission. I guess if you can pull it off you get the benefit of putting a torque wrench on the bolt afterwards.

The way we did it was a lot easier to get the ratchet on, but still can be a pain to break it loose initially.

Yep, as Vince and I mentioned, a melody of extensions.. But I think the method I detailed would be significantly easier - especially for me! It takes 10 mins to put my car on the damn hoist! :P

These tires are a popular choice but I never had much luck with these on my 135i.

Noice!

Really wanted that 265 size but they didn't have an extra load version back then.
They run very wide for their given size.
