Burning oil - - Compression Test: ok
Hello friends,
My car (E90, 318i, MY:2008) is burning about 1L oil every 1000km. Changed 1 month ago the Valve Stem Seals and most gaskets/O-rings but without any improvement. Today the mechanic did a compression test which showed no problems. What could be the culprit? If the piston rings are cooked, shouln't the compression be lower? Any advice is highly appreciated. |

Several questions here;
What oil are you using? Are you measuring the oil with a physical dipstick or do you have the electronic level indicator? Is there any oil smoke from the exhaust? These engines have been known to use oil and BMW will probably tell you 1000km / litre is not exceptional. |

No idea what the compression value was. No, he didn't do a leak down test. Do you mean the CCV? Or what breathers? Quote:
I was using BMW 5w30 oil. Today I made the change to Liqui Moly 4100 5W40. Looking forward to see the results. I am not hoping for a miracle, but maybe a slim improvement. The car doesn't have dipstick. Yes, there is blue smoke when the engine is hot and it's reved up to 5000rpms on standstill. |
