EGR Delete question

I have done extensive searches on this topic but have not been able to find clear answer my question regarding EGR delete:
If I remove EGR and EGR cooler by adding race pipe, blocking off EGR exhaust at manifold, remove cooler and plug coolant lines must I get ECU tune to prevent going into limp mode?
I understand without ECU tune I will throw codes and get check engine light.
I want to understand if I can do EGR delete first and then re-tune at a later date. Can this be done? Do specific sensors need to remain connected?
Thanks.

If you completely remove the EGR valve from the car, you will get limp mode until you get a tune. I believe if you leave it electrically connected but zip-tied out of the way (so you can install the race pipe), you will get codes but the car will work normally.

OK thanks - I guess that is an option, but would be a bit clunky.
Maybe this is a silly question but can one block the EGR exhaust, remove EGR cooler (plug EGR cooler lines) and just leave the stock EGR valve in-place and plugged in?
Would there be any issues with that setup?

The reason I am asking is I want to remove the EGR cooler due to 4873 code (and leak).

Additional follow up to post #3
Understand that set up get codes thrown and SES light.

I eventually plan on getting tune to remove the EGR codes but wanted to phase in the changes to spread the cost

I think you could remove the cooler, do the block-off and paperclip mod the EGR valve so it won't open. Prior to getting my tune and race pipe, I did the paperclip mod, but did not remove the EGR cooler. But I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Others with more experience/knowledge can hopefully step in and clarify.

Yeah, you'll be fine.

Great thanks.

Does the Temperature sensor which goes to the EGR cooler need to remain connected or can that be removed?
