That could be a dangerous thing to do with an un-diagnosed oil loss issue potentially feeding a runaway. Make sure you are ready to manually engage that throttle or some other means of blocking the intake at a moment's notice if you try this.

Yep, that's why I don't think race pipes are a good idea.

why would I get a run away from unplugging that sensor? surely it acts as a throttle body valve in a petrol?

what are race pipes?

One cool thing about diesels is they'll run on just about anything, at least for awhile - even oil mist coming from the crankcase vent thru the turbo.

Why would this cause blue smoke?

Wonder if these code monkeys will come up with a tune to request other self-driving/AI-type features to build on that throttle idea.

Not sure what everyone is getting at?

Unsure how a bad tune would cause engine oil burning. I'd expect to see white or black smoke with a bad tune.

I had bluey black smoke when mine was smoking: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1636234

Initial thought (coming from my mostly petrol based mechanical knowlegde), was that it was burning oil and the turbos had perhaps seen better days. General consensus on here was the map was sh1te.

Cause? The DMS Automotive remap had been redone by "SLT" to remove the EGR/DPF, but they hadnt done the EGR properly, so it was still activating on cold start, causing smoke. BWChiptune redid it properly, no further issues.

His issue was removing the EGR but not mapping it out. He refitted the EGR and the smoke went away - threads here: https://www.e90post.com/forums/searc...rchid=62883163

He started a few

Thanks Dave, that's clears that mystery up ha.

Starting to think maybe my remap has been my issue all along! Maybe it's just trying to regen.

Going to do a chart like yours and see if I can work it out

I'm going to start calling these UK tunes, THATCHER TUNES or BOLLOCKS TUNES because they aren't even competent tunes and cause more issues than good.

I think its probably quite likely - it was obvious my EGR wasnt mapped out properly as the ASV was moving about.

Mine was like a different car once it was sorted properly - more power, less smoke, more mpg.

Pretty much this. So many people over here just go with whatever their local facebook remapper says will give them the most BHP for the least money.

Then people like me have to spend money getting their sh1t fixed at a proper tuner

Thats why i spend most of my life reading the US parts of the forum, so much better for DIY guides/knowledge than the UK section!!
