Under Door Logo Lights - Suddenly Faulty/Distorted, what could cause this?

Hi Guys,

My first post here, have been using this site for a while for all my DIY's on my 2007 335i.
Firstly I have to say thanks to all the great people on here who put in the time and effort in these posts, you have saved me personally hundreds of £'s.

So I recently noticed my under Door Logo Lights are all distorted. Images attached hopefully. I can't be a hundred percent sure when it exactly happened as I don't tend to look at them all the time haha, but it must be recent.

I am of course not fussed about replacing them as it is peanuts for the parts, however I would love to understand more about the systems in our cars and what could of potentially caused this, however dumb it may sound over somthing so small and simple as a door bulb

Maybe recent work on the car could somehow effect them?

Just yesterday evening I done the Alpina B3 flash with no issues.
After letting it rest, this morning I used Inpa to read and clear all fault codes. Drives amazing btw.
I also replaced boost solenoids this morning.

The only other thing I done recently was service gearbox and reset adaption a week ago.

So to my actual questions:
Is this distortion just a damage of the lens from the doors being opened and closed or maybe from washing? (I would understand one door, but both at the same time?)

Or could this be an electrical problem, like a surge, maybe caused by me plugging in and flashing etc?

My previous car was a Vauxhall nova, which had less wiring and hardware than the door of my 335i.
Im really enjoying learning how these machines work as it's a big step up for me, so apologies if I'm being super anal over a door light

Thanks for taking the time to read

Could be water, but those cheap laser projectors just tend to fail after a while, they get dim do weird things etc.

the light is still passing through, so I'm sure the car is fine. Most likely both projectors recently failed and you've just noticed they're both bad?

I had the BMW logos on my doors, they were good for about a year then started to fade, but for $10 it wasn't a big deal.

The image that is projected is printed on a thin layer of clear plastic. After time and use, the plastic wears out and the image starts to burn off or the plastic breaks. The lamp itself is fine, just the image part is worn.

I’m not sure how your aftermarket ones are made, but the bmw ones have inserts with the image on them. You can swap out the inserts on the bmw ones and go on about your day.

The aftermarket ones also have screen filter in cert that makes the image. This looks like the film broke or melted. lucky a replacement is like 5 bucks.

This happens because in all BMW's glory, they felt the courtesy lights in your door should remain on, while the door is closed.
