2006 e92 35i..£5,000?
Whilst waiting for the 35i to have its mot done I got chatting about cars & my 35i in particular with a guy that looked to be in his late twenties & he offered me £5,000 to sell it to him.
I said I would give it some thought & took his phone number. I kinda think maybe I should take his offer but there's nothing I've seen that I would replace it with at the moment. I could just sell it & go without a car until I do see something I like as I have the Discovery which is my dd. Cars done 121,368 miles, tubs replaced at 110,800. I've owned it since July 2012 when it had done 54k. All the usual N54 issues have been dealt with as they've occourred over the years. Bodywork has a few minor scars..couple of dents in drivers door, rear bumper could do with being replaced & there's a bit of a dent across the middle of the bonnet as well as the usual stone chips & minor car park dings a car with over 120,000 miles would have but it's silver & they mostly don't notice...much Mechanically though it's very good, engine & gearbox map, VRSF chargepipe, Mishi intercooler. I would like a g31 40i & have been on the lookout for one since May but they are currently very over priced & I haven't seen one in silver with pan roof. Have also been looking at F31 40i's but they are even more over priced atm. Just curious as to what you guys think, is 5k to good an offer to turn down? Or is that about what it's worth & if I hung onto it until I found a replacement, maybe early next year would I still get similar money for it? Opinions please

I thought 5k was a good offer though.

5K for an E92 335i (man or auto?) that's in good shape is very lowball even with the bodywork issues. You ought to be looking at £7k minimum. Sort out the bodywork and you can add a couple of thousand to that.

I very much doubt any 2006 35i with over 120k miles would be worth 7k or more. I didn't even get an offer when I advertised it back in 2018 for £6,500 & that was with the new turbos.

About 6-7 years ago, I couldn't sell my manual e92 335 for love nor money - even tried on here. It was fucking mint inside and out, not a mark anywhere. 80k miles on the clock 1 previous owner, plus a £1500 audio upgrade (still looked completely OEM) and a remote start/tracker.
Even dropped price to £9k or sensible offers and still no takers. It was like I was trying to sell a 200k mile Ford KA. Deleted the original for sale post, but this is what is left of it https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1139205 So in all honesty, I suspect £7k for a 2006 is not going to happen. So yes, for £5k (could push him an extra £500 or so anyway I reckon) without the hassle of advertising and dealing with fucknuckles - if you're already giving it thought, I'd say yes do it. Looking at these pics again makes me wish I'd hung onto it to be honest..... |

That does look mint Russ but a few things id say as to why.
-6-7 years ago 80k would of been really high mileage. My 2009 is on 70k now lol. -The wheels. There a bit marmite. -Same with cream leather -Lots of people don't want a manual with these cars -Not an M Sport So a few things against it heh. It really is just pot luck selling cars like these. Have to wait a while for the right person. Chappers i wouldnt sell it if i was you. 5k is meh. Keep it enjoy the speed. For the money you aint getting anything remotely similar. |

Yeah, the mileage was a bit higher than average. To be fair, yours is lower than average for the age. Given it's nearly 12 years old that's 5800 miles a year, which is fuck all.....I do more than that on my motorbike, and that's splitting journeys between that and my car.
I agree, I thought manual wasn't in flavour - but if you look at the other thread for 335i tourings, and people are saying manual is rare and desirable?! Mine was a "highline" - never really got the point of it really, as the only non M-sport bits were the bumpers. Everything else was (seats, suspension, etc) and then the spec of the car as a whole was over and above the M-sport. I think the colour combo is personal preference really, rather than being a general opinion. I mean, lots of people don't like plain black leather either. Who knows... I ended up selling it to a trader for £10k, who was someone I'd known a while (and he'd known what I'd done with the car) so was quite happy to take it off me for what was effectively what I needed to get to start the F32 435i journey - rather than selling for £9k or less and needing to find additional funds, so that's all that mattered really at the time. He'd already got a buyer lined up for it too. I was just amazed there was no interest at all, when the forum was then, as it is now, full of threads where current owners (BMW enthusiasts) are being told by others on here (oddly enough, also BMW enthusiasts), that their cars are worth loads. It just appeared to me at the time, perhaps the reality was a bit different. It's all about finding the right buyer at the right time though, hence if Chappers was considering selling his (which is an SE) it, then maybe it's the right time....rather than hanging onto it to then have to near give it away a few years down the line, that's all I was saying. Yeah everything i listed is personal preference which is the point. Its hard to know what people want. 1 person might not want a manual at all, and the next it could be the main factor.
But generally M sport and red/black leather is more desirable. Iam amazed you didn't sell it for that price that long ago, seems a steal. |

As much as I enjoy the 35i I'm getting on a bit now & getting in & out of a lowered car with my dickie knee is getting a bit boring now, yes it's quick, reasonably reliable & I still enjoy driving it & it makes a nice noise.
I just want something comfortable & more practical for putting the 50 kilo Alsatian in that's not my boring diesel discovery daily. After giving the 5k some serious thought & discussing it with the missus she pointed out that selling the 35i without having a replacement for her (she drives the 35i during the week for taking the dog to the country park & wherever else she goes in it) would give her the hump. So I will be keeping it a while longer. I will keep the guys number & maybe give him a call when I find that silver 540i with pan roof & lumbar support as it'd be nice to know that it would be going to a car guy. I guess it will be worth what someones willing to pay for it when I go to sell but I think I paid a good price for it back in 2012 at £11,000 with 52,000 miles & if I'd sold it for 5k then 6k devaluation over more than 8 years would be pretty good.

I think 5k - 5.5k sounds about right for a 335 with 120k miles - that would ring true for one without new tubs in my opinion so the next owner is getting a lot of car for 5k if you accept!
