E90 330D - Main Thermostat

Hi All,

Temps are hovering in the 80's so main stat is playing up, I was just curious if there's any descent aftermarket stats or if just the internal mechanism can be replaced? My current EGR and Main thermostats where purchased from BMW CostsWorld and has failed after about 2 years so I'm not that enthusiastic about going for BMW's one again if some others hold up okay.

Been like it for a few weeks, been to Blackpool as well lol. I use a dashcam called Caroo which also connects to my Carly Adapter and it shows me the coolant temp so I've been monitoring it for ages.

I would stick to BMW stats if i were you. The last non BMW stat i bought failed after a few months. While the BMW one might have the odd bad ones, they are still way better than aftermarket stats.

Okay mate, I suppose on the wider scale of things our M57s could have far worse common faults than stats so I'll just have to get one again

That's good to know mate, wish you could just buy the actual thermostat mechanism rather than the whole housing, on some cars they're bloody pennies and do the same thing and probably don't fail that often either

Agree with rasa, im sure I have seen just the thermostat for sale without the housing. The stat just clips into the housing.

The basic thermostat element is out there... Quality...? not sure. I know when I had my E91 I found a source of the basic element, but went for OEM in the end.

Here's a current link that lists the type of part available. References part numbers and models it fits. If you do try one, make sure it is the right part, as there are other similar thermostats.
