Your opinion on this build?

So I’m probably the ONLY 335i owner who’s building a handling based car. Before I drop some real money on it anyone else do an E90 handling build? How’s the chassis for it? I live really close to VIR and haven’t seen one. BMW still uses the E90 to this day for some Nurburgring league, forgot the name, and is fairly successful! So what’s everyone’s thoughts I’m intrigued :-)

I mean, saying you’re probably the ONLY 335 owner doing this is a bit presumptuous. What are you doing that others haven’t? Are you saying that you’re doing nothing to the engine and going balls out on the chassis?

Posts abound of people upgrading just about every suspension component, steering rack, etc either with M3 parts or aftermarket. IMO the best approach is a well-rounded build.

It sounds cool, don’t get me wrong, I just don’t understand the uniqueness factor at this point. Got some details you can share?

I think ST Coilovers would be a good piece to this build

Oh I was mainly just joking, most people who have 335i’s do highway racing builds 😅 sorry for the confusion

I've heard that STs are better suited for track use (assuming that's what this build will be mainly used for). BC is a happy medium between street and track though

*I have no personal experience with either, this is just some general info I've picked up after some research

m3 steering rack, m3 bits everywhere. our 335i arms are made for crumpling not track work. Good luck.

I mean, I "built" my E90 330i for handling, but that's because it will never be fast in a straight line. I did full M3 control arms/ bushings all around, new shocks, tie rods, tires, alignment, etc. It is definitely the best handling car I've owned.

Your profile says 328 not 335 and your build gives no specifics. Quite the entrance for a newbie, you’re a gem.

It’s more of a car to have fun on a twisty road and drive to work sometimes not really a track car I do plan to track it every now and then

Yeah I’ve been reading about that, I want to get coilovers then wheels because the po just didn’t care about these wheels at all so they’re all curbed and bent. Then after that probably M3 bits. With the steering rack I was reading it depends on the 335i’s options and M3 options, couldn’t really get a clarified answer on it. Still trying to find answers

Okay good to hear, I really just want a good handling boosted sedan with a nice exhaust note. IE an E90 335i

It’s that obvious? I made my account back when I had my 328i in high school completely forgot to change it, went through 2 cars and then I tried signing up for another account on here and it was like “your emails already in use” and I just logged back in and changed the picture and got to asking people stuff. I was trying to make it seem more like a “has anyone done an E90 handling build? How’d it go?” But I was tired when I posted it without proof reading

Ironically, the reason I bought my E90 was because of my experience running them at the Nürburgring and at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps (Spa).

Even in 325 and 328 trim, they're exceptionally well balanced and fun to drive. I'm no expert on BMW coil-overs (other than having just chucked the single adjustable Bilsteins on my E36 for KW Variant III's), but I can tell you that with some weight reduction, good tires, a good set of pads/fluid/lines/ducts (read: not big brakes) the E90 platform is a blast on track.

I've run VIR a number of times... just be careful in the climbing esses with the power in the 335. You'll get in trouble without experience and real aero.

PS: The VLN Series runs E90 on the Nordschleife

The esses is the funnest part though!! but yeah I’ve seen some people really mess up there especially the turn right after
