I've been on the forum long enough to know that folks are going to ask what common issues with the 335i (ex. water pump, t-stat, etc) have you remedied already and have you done any recent repairs? How well maintained is your vehicle?

Water pump would be my main concern if it hasnt been change. Other than that if the car is running fine there shouldnt be a problem. 5 hours is nothing.
I drove my buick enclave with 200 000 miles from toronto to miami last year. That is around 24 hours each trip. ( 12 hours a day). It was about 3500 miles round trip. No issues Highway driving is easy on car engines. City is what kills u |

I drove mine from SoCal to New Orleans last year immediately after taking possession of it. Knowing what I know now I wouldn't do it again unless I had addressed the coils, serpentine belt/idlers, and water pump (which had already been addressed on mine). Also make sure you don't have an OFHG leak...
The coils shit the bed about 3 days after I got home which wouldn't have been fun to fix in the Arizona desert in June. The other things that are problematic on these cars probably won't leave you stranded. |

5 hours is nothing. If you have been keeping it maintained properly, then there's nothing to worry about. Just enjoy the drive.

Cars are not possessed. They do not decide to breakdown just because you are driving on a road trip to some place away from home. If you keep your car maintained at a level that makes it reliable enough to drive in your home town, then it is in a condition to make a road trip.
Now, planning is important, so if your car is scheduled for a maintenance item that will fall within the timeframe or mileage of the trip, then get the maintenance done before the trip so you do not need to have the maintenance done while on the trip. Other than that the manual set has all the listings of BMW dealers in every state. And a smart phone gives you access to the internet in case of emergency. |

I shall not complain about my 25 minute commute. Back to OP, make sure you have roadside assistance, spare tire (or funflat), extra bottle of oil, coolant... and just plan ahead. Not N54 specific really. Just simple common sense for any sort of road trips. Last edited by Gamb1t; 08-21-2019 at 11:28 AM.. |

How long have you owned the car? If you've kept up on general maintenance items, you have nothing to worry about. If it's a new car, I'd drive it around for a while and have it inspected thoroughly just to get a feel for if it's ready for road trips.
I take mine on long road trips many times throughout the year. I've already tackled most things that need to be done on it, so I really have nothing to worry about. |

The only thing is that I知 worried about and because of this I知 probably going to change the belt and pulleys but whenever I知 getting on the gas and I reach about 3-4K rpm I hear this whining noise pretty faint and only really on hotter days. I tried to get it on camera but couldn稚 hear it in the video if that says how faint it is
