Question 2008 e90 Rear speakers chirp/crackle?

Hello all,

I recently picked up a 2008 328i. It has the BMW Professional HiFi (676) system. No Bluetooth or USB play. Everything is stock.

The problem is this: Earlier today, while I was on a road trip, the rear speakers directly under the rear windshield (the driver side speaker more so than the passenger side) started chirping, almost exactly like a cricket. This problem persists even when I turn audio off. Sometimes the chirping is replaced by a crackling and popping noise. As far as I can tell sound still comes out of the speakers while they chirp/pop.

I am not very familiar with this kind of thing. I have done quite a bit of searching on this thread among others. The best I can tell is that it is possible the AMP is having problems?

Any ideas?
Thanks!

The radio is never really off in these cars as they use the stereo system
for some of the car alarms.
First thing to check is no water on the amplifier.
There was also some problems with some years of the Pro Radio
but the sound would be more like static I believe.

I looked for water and from what I saw there was none. I live in the south and it hadn't rained for a few days when the problem began, so I don't see water being a main issue.

The link you provided says the issue occurred in the 2009+ model, do you think it could have affected some of the 2008's as well?

I appreciate your help!

You could try swapping the speakers from side to side .
