(Dead Project) E90 ACC Stop + Go Development Thread

Project goal: Drive to the beach without touching the gas or the brake.

Thanks to everyone who voted on my summer project thread. I was going to do the soft close door retrofit but the deal I had lined up for the parts fell through and I found another deal on the parts for this retrofit. It is such a tragedy that my current ACC retrofit only goes down to 20 miles an hour and I have to use actual force to press the brake pedal down. Then, when I am on the motorway even on the shortest following distance setting does not tailgate the person in front of me like a true BMW driver. Hopefully this new system will tailgate like a proper BMW driver.

Current unknowns:
  • Will E70 ACC parts play nice with the E90?
  • Where will I mount the new sensor?
  • Will the sensor like being center mounted instead off to the side like on the E70?

Parts List:
  • E70 ACC S+G sensor
  • E70 ACC S+G distance module
  • E90 ACC stalk
  • E70 ACC trim
  • F30 ACC bracket
  • VW Passat ACC harness
  • Bolts and screws

Functional Description

Wiring Diagram

Sensor dimensions: 12x8.5x4 CM

Instead of the ACC sensor getting PT can like the E90 ACC the S+G sensor gets special S can from the new LDM. My current plan is to plastic weld the E70 ACC trim to my pre lci E90 lower front grill. I believe the sensor needs a nice thin plastic trim over the sensor to protect it from road damage. For the actual mounting bracket I want to use a F30 ACC bracket and center mount it in between the crash bar and a lower plastic bracket.

I have no idea if this will work but it is worth the try.

This is a video of the two sensor S+G on Mr.Perfekt's E63:

This is a video of the current one sensor S+G on the new X5:

Today the E70 acc trim and F30 acc bracket came in. I currently am in the process of making a custom trim for the ACC S+G in the E90. The F30 bracket looks like it will work but I will not know until I get the bumper off. It is going to be a huge challenge getting the bracket mounted perfectly straight. I do not think there is too much of a margin of error on that.

The trim is finished and it looks OK. I am hoping once it is on the car it will be fine since it is so low.

I plugged in the E70 LDM and sensor today. The LDM flipped out that it did not see a E70 DSC. This is officially a dead project.

I guess it is time to do soft close doors.

Hi
With rear-wheel drive e90, this LDM e70 module should not work there completely different DSC.

But with the all-wheel drive E90 it is theoretically possible, they have the same DSC, DSC 8Plus as on the E60 / 63 all-wheel drive, they were put on an active cruise stop end go, another generation, but still, there is a chance.

I was also interested in this topic, why e9x deprived of this functionality (cruise stop & go)
I would try it myself, but I don’t have (hardware), a unit from (LDM e7x or a 2nd generation ACC2 radar, on the e60 / 63 car there is no separate LDM unit, it is built into the ACC2 radar),
Those who live in the United States, they are very lucky, there is (junk yard) where you can find these blocks for symbolic money, in my region a needle in a haystack is easier to find, it's that kind of lyrics.

To test my theory, if anyone has a block, you need to connect the LDM (e7x or ACC2 e6x radar) to e9x and read the car, BMW Inpa, see if LDM or ACC2 sees the installed DSC (DX 8plus) if any of the LDM blocks or radar ACC2 will see factory DSC 8plus E9x only (x-drive) that half a way is passed.

If we read how the E7x ACC and circuits are arranged, we see that the LDM (longitudinal dynamics control module) communicates a lot with anything (ACSM pillows, DSC abs, FRM module in the footwell, JBE distribution box, SLZ levers) and plus many more signals receives from other units (lights, doors, belts, etc.), but this is already through JBE and FRM.

I have a 330xi with ACC installed. Let me see if I can find a e70 ldm and sensor for cheap.

Was this confirmed that the hardware is the same for similar drivetrains?

Also, it may be that DSC has different software, which would need to be flashed (not coded), for the system to recognize it. I think flashing is done using winkfp.

Just throwing it this out there - maybe someone will confirm.

So far I have launched the factory circuit on my 325 x-drive, with a standard radar, as I find it from the E7x, I will try to connect it and see if it will be seen or not.

Any developments in S+G for xDrive E90s?
It makes sense the DSC module in xDrive can control throttle and brake much better at lower speeds (such as the xDrive-exclusive HDC button/feature).
I'm in love with the idea of retrofitting ACC to my car, but honestly, mind as well go all-in and get ACC2 w S+G.

By the way, I hope you know how much we appreciate what you bring to this community.

Hi ,
Your idea of emulator works in my 4-cyl E92. Please refer to https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...t=acc+retrofit

Did you do anything with your findings? Did you try something yourself already? I had the same idea already for a few years, and have all the parts.
But didn't do anything with it yet. My idea is to put in a DSC8+ from e84 in it.
