I believe that one reason Dinan is now willing to talk diesel is that they were sort of forced by the market into going the piggy-back route rather than flashed tunes (which can't easily be done to the diesels with the latest DDEs, as you know.)
If I wanted a road-legal tune with modest gains, Dinan might well be my choice. And since Dinan is in CA, they're a little more focussed on road-legal. |

This. European governments have subsidised diesel r&d and sales for years, and as a result, diesel car sales now make up 51% all new car sales across the EU, including the UK.
Naturally, there is a massive diesel tuning interest. Diesel motoring and tuning in the UK, for the most part, is not slapped with the same stigma as it appears to be in the states. There also isn't the crazy views/expectations about power in the U.K. As there is in the US - e.g where ~200hp cars are considered slow etc. Personally I would be seriously interested in diesel unit produced by Dinan. I have a UK spec E92 330D N57. |

I'm on the east side of Sacramento near Folsom Lake. Am interested in this tune. Have run a JBD for most of the car's life, although it is not installed at the moment.
How does this prospective device deal with the CA smog test every two years?

At the moment, it technically doesn't. The paperwork has been submitted to CARB though for an EO Exemption. In general Dinan will not make a product that is not emissions legal. Not worth the fines...

Understood. As a follow-on question, is this prospective device intended to be a user-installed device or not? And I don't mean a hard-core wrench-turner.

Wow that was fast.
Seems like a luxury JBD tuner. Not a bad option for those who buy new and want to get their feet wet without worries. |
