Poor FM radio reception

I know, I know, I'm stuck in the 80s but I'm a sucker for Radio 2 ;-)

So, Radio 2 is actually ok, but local radio stations around Belfast are extremely hissy and it's been getting worse over the last couple of months.

It may be joint aging between the antenna and radio unit - anyone any suggestions on where to start with the WD40? or have any other suggestions on how to resolve it?

E92 with non-nav Professional Radio

TIA

Garage List
Try checking the diversity module at the rear and make sure the rear window heater is off.

Just checking have you done any mods like LED markers or interior LEDs. I had problems with my last set of ring LEDs killing radio signal

Could be worth closely inspecting the aerial lines embedded in the glass, have seen them fracture and radio reception declines.

What is the solution to that?
New rear glass?

Pretty much mate, although it's the same as heated screen bars in that they're on the inside face of the glass and can get scratched easily. But I assume they can probably be repaired in the same manner ie those bottles of liquid metal .
Every one I've diagnosed ended up getting a new glass and cured fault.

Bingo, added some a while back but the radio is only showing signs of this in the last few weeks. Possible breakdown of the units?

I'll turn off the DRLs and see how that goes.

Well, turning off the DRLs confirms it. It's the halo LEDs.
Have emailed HIDs Direct. The lamps have a 2 yr warranty so.

Yep, I, ummm, took your recommendation if you remember? ;-)

Never mind, should get it sorted. No reply yet however, may require a phone call...

Mine are the same, didn't realise the problem started at the same time as when I fitted them, will return to stock yellow rings for now as I value the radio more than 2 white rings!

Understand. Have you spoken to HIDs Direct about your own?

Spoke to HIDs Direct and they suggest an EMI Filter on each power cable. I'll stop by Maplin on the way home and pick a couple up.
Will let you know if that works..

Did it work for you? I'm having the same issue, not sure which led rings I have but turning off the day time running lights fixes it.

My radio reception is ok until I switch the heated rear window on then it goes crap. Does the radio use the heating elements or the shark fin on the roof? Got pro nav if that makes a difference.

Query for KM79 - "But I assume they can probably be repaired in the same manner ie those bottles of liquid metal ."
I've been having trouble with FM reception in my E91/'08. I thought it might be the diversity module but I've just changed that. DAB fine, where reception allows - the hills in W Dorset make DAB reception a bit hit-&-miss! Remote locking fine. What's the "liquid metal" you referred to? Can one add a secondary stub aerial to the spoiler?

Just a thought...

Make sure you have no USB chargers plugged in, these can kill FM and AM reception.

I go for Belkin ones, about the only ones that don't mess up reception.
