As above.
Diesel engines dont have throttles. That valve sits completely open once the engines running, and is only used to cut airflow to the engine when you turn it off so it stops smoothly. On a diesel, all the "throttle pedal" does is requests more fuel, the airflow thru the engine doesnt matter and diesels will happily run very lean. A petrol on the other hand requires the perfect mixture of air and fuel, so when driving along normally at low load, the throttle plate limits the airflow into the engine according to your pedal position. It may well be that the process still does some "reset" within the ECU ofcourse. |

Actioned the procedure this morning before driving to work. No hesitation noticed but it didnt always do it only when i was holding very light throttle at 30/40mph so ill keep testing.

Have you read the codes? I had this on my old E46 330d, it was a duff swirlflap actuator.

im guessing you havent had your swirl flaps blanked? Ive not got any record of mine being done. so im now wondering if its is something to do with them.
Or its carbon build up in the intake. So when the pedal is pressed to add more fuel the expected air is not there as there is a restriction |

Ok then the fact mines remapped won't be the cause. I don't know if it's physcological or not but mine doesn't seem to do it as much since the throttle reset. and when it did do it the other day it wasn't as noticeable.

Mine does a very similar thing as the OP's (mine is a 57 320d 163), it's done it since I bought it on 70k now on 110k. I up it down to needing a service and each time I've had it serviced it's got better.
Over this past winter I had the car serviced and the mpg was not getting any better, went as low as 43 which is pretty rubbish considering I do 170mile commute on the M6. After whining to my local garage, they said they thought it could be an injector so they tested them it would seem that I've got 2 with a poor flow rate or something. So they said either send them away or replace, due to not being able to be without my car for more than a dative left it for now. My mpg has picked up with the recent warmer weather but not amazing at 47.8. When I finally send it in I'm going to get the get cleaned as well which will hopefully help. Cheers |

injector fault or reduced flow would make sense as the issue would be exasperated by poor quality fuel and potentially cured or masked by good quality fuel.
if gone for some BP ultimate diesel this time round instead of the usual cheap Tesco stuff as a test. I think inpa will give live feed of injector flow (could be wrong) so I might hook that up and take some readings |

I dropped below just below a quarter tank of diesel and it started juddering again but as Borinous stated not as bad but £30 of shell's better stuff in and instantly it stopped, so thinking its fuel related or fuel pressure related, I bought some wynn's high performance diesel treatment, I stuck that in and brimmed the car with the same shell stuff I used earlier and have to say after a 150 miles the car is certainly feeling smoother and seems to pick up a lot better too and touch wood no juddering 😏

E30 Sam- I'm pretty sure the car needs a good service and as soon as funds allow its getting the works 😉 hoping it's not injectors as they are about £260 a pop from euro car parts 😳 can injectors be cleaned???

If it re-occurs when it drops below half a tank again even with "good" fuel. could that be a fuel pump issue? |

Mine is serviced every 10k and wants for nothing usually. The garage I use which are really good have said they'll take all 4 injectors out for £30 each and test them. They think only 2 are a problem and they can be reset for about £100 each but if it's all 4 I'll be close to a £500 bill. So with that in mind I can cope with a few MPG less as its fine 90% of the time.
