Another month gone by with no issues or expenses other than fuel.
I got to drive the 35i last weekend after more than 7 weeks of not driving. I just scudded about & racked up over 600 very enjoyable miles

I got the Gloss black front grills as a birthday present so a free month aside from the usual tax, fuel and warranty!

There is the teeniest of rattles at cold start up so I think I'll be taking it to BMW before the warranty ends, if I can get the turbos replaced then I'll stop the warranty when it comes to renewal which will save a few bob. I figure that if the DSC hydro pump, HPFP, gearbox and turbos have been replaced then I can sort any other issues out as and when they happen.

I don't think the rattle alone will be enough to get them to agree to replacing both turbos from what I have read.

They may need to see evidence that the rattle is causing a fault. As the warranty says it covers "the sudden and unexpected failure of a covered component".

More than happy/hopeful to be proven wrong though so please feedback your experience!

I've read lots of forum posts from others that say BMW are a bit gung ho with replacing them, it's in the dealers interest to replace the whole thing end of the day as more money for them! Fingers crossed!

They replaced mine and all they did was rattle.
had no issues reaching full boost or any error codes.

Went in for waterpump and thermostat and I asked them to check them as they had the undertray etc off already and they came back saying they were outside normal/expected wear so would replace them.

Seems that I'm going to have to spend some money on the 35i
It had been unused for 7 weeks or so & now I've started driving it again I noticed a burning oil smell yesterday. I've had a look around the engine bay & have noticed that the valve cover gasket has started leaking.
My Indy has quoted £350 labour & the gaskets around £40, I'm not sure if the valve cover is cracked, guess I won't know until it's stripped down. If I buy a new valve cover it comes with gasket, replacement one time use bolts & a new PCV at a cost of £365 from main dealer.
I suppose it's done well to last for 105+k but I am wondering if the car not being used for a while contributed to the vcg failing. I also suspect if the vcg is leaking the sump gasket will also either be leaking or will start leaking shortly, I suspect that'll be expensive as the subframe has to be dropped, anyone had these two jobs done recently & could let me know the cost?

Mot is also due next month

I did have the car up for sale but I guess if I'm going to be spending out on it I may as well keep it, although getting in & out is a bit difficult at the moment due to my dicky knee.
If I do keep it I will also have to buy a set of rear seat & 1/4 panel covers so we can take the dog out in the car.

Ouch, bloody cars but at least you get plenty of use & enjoyment out of yours

Change of topic, I saw a black e92 with orange wheels, orange callipers & orange hubs the other day.

Oops, you mean the MV3s? Nope, gunmetal. Hopefully easier to maintain during the winter months.

Bloody wastegates have started to rattle upon cold start up
They quieten down once exhaust flap closes, no rattle on deceleration & car still pulls good & strong, so good that I out accelerated a M140 today

Tax is bloody joke, road tax, fuel tax, tax on parts, tax on repairs & all this tax out of money we've already been taxed on

Tax rant done, hope your 35i passes it's MOT with no issues, mines due towards the end of the month.

Pads were £74 & £14 for the sensor, I didn't charge myself for the labour
