Hi

I have a 2008 BMW E90 320D M Sport with 48k on the clock.

Car is hesitant when pressing the accelerator and its almost as if there is turbo lag etc. It hesistates around 3000 rpm when driving but then carries on as normal.

I also had a funny smell coming from the engine bay and a BMW specialist said it was a DPF issue. I had the DPF knocked through which was blocked (it has not been mapped yet) and there is still lag when starting it and revving.

I've cleaned the EGR valve as it was covered in soot (guessing from the DPF being blocked) and replaced the MAP sensor for a new one but still no luck. I've also disconnected the MAF sensor to see if it made any difference but nothing changed. No warning lights are on the dashboard.

Would be grateful if anyone could help or shed any light or advice of similar problems they had.

There would definitely be something wrong if it had coil packs!

Sounds like a dodgy fuel pump

might be turbo geometry actuator failed, can be checked with DIS or Rheingold test-plan

I'll try the fuel pump. Im guessing I would have to get a stealer to check with DIS which i'll use as a last resort....anymore suggestions welcome.

Check all seals in the pipe work after the turbo, and check the inlet manifold for leaks. As said though, it could a failing turbo.

Get it checked for fault codes, but turbos rarely give a fault code so just be vigilant.

cheers guys. Im going to clean and check the swirl flaps and throttle valve next.

Then take the turbo off and actuator check the pipes and get the turbo and actuator sent away to be checked and repaired if need be.

I removed the swirl flaps/inlet manifold today and it was covered with gunk - i've attached some pictures below.

I've also cleaned the throttle valve and going to re-assemble tomorrow.

I've noticed where i removed the inlet manifold the inlet valves on the cylinder head are filled with gunk too does anyone recommend any good ways to clean this. Obviously i'm a little bit sceptical as it is part of the cylinder head and don't want to ruin the engine in any way (that's if it already isn't!! )
