Do you guys have any opinions/experience on the following rim styles I have the opportunity to purchase in terms of a)weight b)strength c) even though this is highly subjective: looks
Style 285 Style 197 Style 193 http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/3/E90+ It will be for my 328i E90. Thank you |

Those 3 are some of my favorite stockers, I absolutely LOVE the 193's personally. Pretty much any stock rim will be on the heavy side but strong, I don't think any of those 3 options will differ much from each other in those aspects. Just go with the ones you like best (and/or can get the best deal on), they all look great imo.

I have the 285's on my 328i (and 16's for winter), they look good and are easy to clean. Being a 17" wheel the tire also has more sidewall. I love the 193's but being an 18" wheel they would be more likely to crack around here with all the lousy roads and potholes.

Not much of a fan either 3. Anything with more than 5 spokes, or multi-spoke, just don't appeal to me because I don't find them sporty looking and they're more tedious to clean (besides paying someone to do it) when washing the car. I prefer 5 spokes like the 189 style. Have those as OEM on my 2010 E92 335i.
Others will beg to differ, but that's just me. Each is to their own. Good luck with whichever style you choose.

285s are what I own. Don't love them but they're alright.
197s are too busy. Too much going on. 193s are great. Powder coat black and that's bangin! Probably the weakest rim of them all but definitely the most modern looking. |

I’ve considered all of these. Any of the three would be good. I would though go with whichever is in best shape.
285 is square set. 193 (it has the “M” sticker) and 197 is staggered. This handles better IMHO with wider tires. These wheels should really be on with sport version shocks and springs though to get full benefit of handling. So ultimately you will end up modding more. This has happened to me. Now I have the M3 wheels and its crazy all the steps I had to mod. Last edited by bkwld; 06-13-2019 at 07:25 PM.. |

Idk where you’re looking at paying for the rims, but the 197s are very similar to the alzor 030 from ecs tuning...at times those go on sale for like $100/rim...

Thanks for all the responses, I wasn't expecting such a great number of posts. I agree the 193s are the sportiest looking. The 197 are nice but maybe too loud for a relatively stock car.
The 285 are classy and the seller had good tires on them, Pirelli P7 and for $400 I couldn't go wrong. I knew run flats are garbage but I didn't realize how bad they were. I do have non rft winter tires but these P7 are so comfortable and the handling is amazing. The 16" RFT were Bridgestone and relatively new but even with the stiffness the handling and ride was garbage. The new tires feel so sure footed. Thanks all |

193M for the win. I have a 2009 328i and I love the staggered stance. They are the most modern looking for sure. I have had mine for 5+ years with no cracking on Baltimore roads 👎🏾. Just recently powder coated with dark hyper silver. All kinds of complements.

Crazy, the 16" RFT tires + 156 rims weigh 50lbs!
I polished the rims with wax - nufinish. Handling is good, impressed with the P7s Top is the 285, bottom is the stock 156 |
