12' 335i Msport Auto or 12' 335is DCT

Hey guys stuck in between the two! Was fixed on getting the 335is until I seen the Pure Stage 2 Turbo upgrade for the N55. They both have around 40k mileage and only $2k price difference. I'm definitely going to mod it. But need advice of which one will be the better choice in the long run performance wise.

One with a manual transmission?

You can't go wrong with either one. I think DCT is generally favored over auto ...

Go with the 335is if you're looking for performance. The N55 is a perfectly capable engine but the 335is has some extra goodies like DCT. It is also more rare so that may help with resale a little bit. The N55 obviously will be more reliable. Either way, you'll be happy

Then go N55 with stage 2, you will be very happy. You can get a DCT N55 also.

In the US, only the 135 had the DCT as an option.

Oh my mistake, though they had added it in 2012.

Do DCT's still have trouble slipping at higher hp ratings?

As long as you have a pro tune, it's not an issue.

If you got the n55 stage 2 then you are going to want the LSD from the IS. So I would just say go with the IS and FBO it.

Also, n54 is easier to deal with emission wise. I can't get my n55 to pass emissions with the catless DP.

If you're looking for power, go with the auto or 6 spd option. The DCT struggles at high HP levels.

my DCT is holding up fine. 100+ 40-155mph runs on 500+ whp and TQ. DCT kicks ass, N54 FBO with inlets will make a solid 480whp if tuned right closer to 500. N55 with PURE S2 will make 500whp on moderate boost and mods. as mentioned above the IS model has a ton of extras the normal ones dont. if it were me i would take the car with the better warranty and then low ball the ish out of them

That's the plan! The 335i has factory warranty until next May, versus the 335IS has factory up til' November!

What's So Good About The DCT? Wouldn't the B3 flash be just as good and shift as quickly?

I would do the IS....quite possibly it's the best non M BMW ever produced. You get the suspension bits, the interior bits, the LCI headlights and it should hold a little better value.

I think it's a matter of personal preference (color, interior, etc) + what your goals are for the car. If you want POWER the 335is has it's perks and you can get upgraded turbos (RB or Vargas) just like you can get a Pure Stage ll on the N55 with similar results. The resale value is another plus on the IS but the DCT is known for having problems in high HP cars.
You can always get the Alpina B3 flash on the N55 for faster shifting.

N54 : Single Turbo upgrade available, more potential, better resale value, LSD, etc

N55 : Newer engine, more reliable, valvetronics, extra 6 months of warranty
Can get Alpina Flash

My $.02

Good Luck whichever way you go

I don't think the 335is comes with an LSD.

IS ftw! It's everything you need. You will never be disappointed. Plus the turbos and hpfp is still covered for a while.
