Hey I recently brought a 2007 bmw 328i and everything was good I went and installed a screen in the car because I didn't have the navigation screen and when the radio place finished I had a yellow steering wheel icon on there and within that days end it turned red and didn't allow me to start it again the people told me it may be from a old low battery voltage and installing the screen. When I took it to bmw dealership they're now telling me it's a possible wire issue or a module needs to be replaced anyone in the NY area could possibly help me solve this?
Sidenote: also need to register the new battery to the car Update when someone came out to check codes my o2 sensor popped up and my crankshaft sensor |

06 and 07 had this problem and really should have been a recall.
I had my upper steering column replaced at cost of 1600 at my Indy. There is a software down counter and after a set number of try's it goes to Red. At which point you have to reset the counter with software capable of doing that. If you don't mind not having the steering lock you can be a spoofing device for around 100 bucks that tells the car the lock is always working. there are big threads on this and big DIY in the DIY section. Also a lot of big threads here already. If I were you I would attempt to reset the counter as a first step. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...=Steering+Lock http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=steering+lock https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...=Steering+Lock this link use to display pictures. Get the bimmergeeks.net cable and software download and setup standard tools and Ista D its all you will ever need to work on the car. also to stay ahead of the issues you should read. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1517476 and this one broken belt https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1305990 http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho....php?t=1231881 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...3&postcount=23 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1477111 https://www.oxwerkzperformance.com/ Last edited by ctuna; 11-07-2019 at 02:53 PM.. |

ctuna the CAS can be flashed to a version that doesn't need ELV to start, it is much cheaper and better. But I bet Alkenzou won't be able to that alone in this life
Alkenzou I assume your issue occurred as some bad wiring consumes your battery and keeps CAS awake. Usually bad power to the CAS will increase the ELV counter. And it is possible that after you reset your ELV counter, if you don't fix your main issue, this will happen again. I suggest that you contact a local BMW garage and let them rework your wires, and reset the ELV, also they should check that the car sleeps properly, and that the battery is in good condition. |

I installed an emulator because of ELV issues but I still get the yellow warning once every 4-6 months. When it happens I have to wait a few minutes before I'm able to start the car. I'm guessing it's some synchronization issue with the emulator, where the emulator isn't sending the signal that the steering column is unlocked when commanded. |

I'm interested in the CAS update for my daughter's E92...
icon2015, I didn't really understand your post above...could you give a bit more detail into which update is needed?

If I am reading those numbers right there is no e9x file and all those
files are for CAS3. Since they stopped puting the locks in around 09 I don't see how this is relevant. 06 or 07 cars had cas1 or cas2 not sure which. I read somewhere on here they were retrofitting the non lock steering columns as a fix with the software for the older cars. Plus a manual transmission won't work as a lock. I joined the failed water pump club today. |

I'd love to disable it entirely since that's the cleaner solution. |

Not all E89 series with CAS3 came with ELV off, in fact the vast majority of them came with ELV on, so those files are relevant if you have a broken ELV. For the early E89 series BMW put CAS2 on them, and there are flash files with ELV off for those as well. lab_rat those numbers are the ZB numbers of the CAS that have ELV function disabled, you can update your CAS with one of those. To be honest the procedure is not that easy, and if you don't do this for a living, I would suggest that you buy an emulator or get your car to a local BMW garage. |

Could anybody please confirm if the current crop of ELV emulators also support the CAS3 => ELV as featured on newer E90s?
By the way, out of curiosity, does anybody know what the emulators actually do? There is some kind of 9600 bit/s serial port protocol being spoken between the CAS and the ELV as far as I know. Did someone reverse engineer that protocol to catch the CAS's requests to lock/unlock and send back the proper replies? |
