you cant complain about the $600 price though! It was going to cost me around $450-$500 to build myself.
Price is right, but it does irk me that the design seems to literally be a copy of IAKNOWN's exhaust. Anyhow deleting ASV may have pros and cons, but do not like how the car sounds on shut down without an ASV.

Just thought I'd chime in here briefly

A few of you asked about another intercooler option available. It is nothing new. Has been used for years on the gas platform known as the Big Tom (CX Racing core). If you do your research you'll find it is indeed better than stock, but past that nothing groundbreaking. I think most would be surprised what the "size" is given the total volume (especially that which actually sees airflow). I'll let independent tests answer if it's better or not all the info is available online if you do some searching.

Regarding exhaust, there is another option coming (and one that is an original design). The 201 series (polished and TIG-welded) will be released again in a few months for pricing that will shock many and meet the needs of those looking for a budget exhaust that fits well. Some of the members here are still running this 201 system on their car to this day....

Thats great news! I’m also curious what you think about deleting the ASV?

To be honest, we had a ASV go bad on our X5d. It annoyed me to no end. Made our BMW feel like a tractor every time it was turned off. But to each his own....The main reason we won't take the chance is liability. Oil buildup in the intercooler is common on these cars so who knows what is possible over time. I could be overthinking it but the combination of the above just isn't worth releasing one....

That being said there is a ASV elbow kit out now that elimiates the OEM leaky connection here

Has there been any documented or undocumented stories of "run away" on these engines with racepipes installed? Just asking because I sometimes have my wife drive my car.

I haven't heard of any with these cars. Then again, I'd be curious to know how many have deleted the ASV? I was considering Orion's pipe until I read more about the negative of deleting the ASV (i.e. runaway).

I've heard of one case that I can remember. Possibly two. My ASV is still on. I don't see any reason to delete it. I can't image the power gains are substantial.

ASV also seems to assist in getting combustion chamber to temp or otherwise assists on a cold start.

I've never seen it do much on a cold start. Its whole function is to choke the engine on shutdown. And makes the engine shake less when you shut down. ASV is literally Anti Shudder Valve.

Watching it on my Carly parameter a couple mornings in a row, it is quite active on a cold start. Im not sure why, or if that behavior is dependent on ambient temp (30s).
In addition to the smooth shutdown, it is a key component in DPF regeneration (obviously you and most here know this, just pointing out for clarification)

It is used to pull air through the EGR as well. This would make sense during a cold start as it would help warm things up faster.

Orions EGR/ASV delete and full str8 pipe exhaust installed two weeks ago. Simple, easy, tail pipes can be a bitch to line up but everything fits well.

Im one for simplicity so asv/egr needed to go, cleans up the engine bay real nice and the coolant plugs are awesome.

Plus the DieselOps guys hooked me up with a killer price

Str8 pipe whistle is soooooooooo nice

Which won't make any difference if you're going to be deleting the EGR. I've never heard of anyone wanting to delete the ASV and not the EGR. Would help the car warm up if the vehicle is stock.

Orion's Y-pipe is far superior IMO

There is zero good reasons to delete the ASV.
  • Its a required vehicle part for racing in the NHRDA
  • It makes the car sound like a tractor when you turn the vehicle off
  • It prevents runaway should the turbo fail and start leaking oil into the intercooler. If the turbo seal fails and you don't have an ASV, the car isn't going to stop until the engine comes apart.

There's hundreds and hundreds of runaway diesel engine videos you can watch on YouTube.

In videos I've seen with these style Y pipes, diesel smoke clouds are mostly exiting the left tailpipe.
And they cost too much for my daily driver. I would rather spend $1500.00 on my track car.

You compared Orion knock-off pipe to the ATM pipe...saying that the Orion pipe is far superior then you tried to qualify that comment and posted a photo of a P&L catback.

And cheaper does not qualify that it is better. Yes, the P&L pic was confusing.

Does anyone have a sound clip of the Orion exhaust? I'm looking for the straight pipe sound but the P&L is more then I'm really looking to spend. I would love to go with ATM but I hate the idea of buying it just to chop the mufflers out.

I'll try to post this weekend, I might need to weld in a couple more resonators/mufflers because its a bit much for me. I live in the land of diesel trucks' so i fit right in.
