e92 330d steering clunk
I recently bought a low mielage 330d which was cat d repaired. It drives brilliantly and is in good condition however on full lock each way when the car is moving there is a clunk from the steering and a visible movement of the wheel at the same time.
It was banged up the front but from looking underneath it i cant see anything wrong. It has the m3 wheels on it though and I am wondering if these might be the cause due to the offsets being too much? As well as this it has an M badge on the back. Is this supposed to be there? Many thanks, Rohan |

You need to get it to a suspension expert.
An alignment check will tell you how good the repair was. And what is amiss up front. Maybe they didnt rebuild the struts properly - upper strut bearings/nuts loose or incorrectly seated suspension springs normally cause this. So my guess is something is wrong with one of the front struts, normally the one on the inside of the turning circle will bang as the tyre skips.

Thanks for the reply.
I changed the oil in it this evening and had a good look at the struts, control arms etc and notjhing seems amiss. You are right though it seems its the inside wheel that skips and it is worse in reverse it seems. Any ides on who is a good suspension shop to go to? I have heard the offset on the m3 wheels is too much - could it be this? Thanks, Rohan |
