Hi mate, so do you think the Inpa values show anything odd??

My first port of call would be an oil flush and oil and filter change.

To me mate they looked okay, I mean don't get me wrong I don't know what half of them are but most bars have red on them and none of mine are on the red. Also, I have posted the injector values and someone said they're really good. I just posted the INPA analog values and the rest of the pages in case anyone does have an understanding of them which may help identify what's going on. I hope it's not something bad, I purchased the on the 17th March and since then I've had:

oil and oil filter change
EGR clean
intake manifold cleaned and swirl flaps blanked
crankcase breather changed
thermostats changed
air filter changed
and I replaced the brake vacuum gasket that tends to leak on these bmw's and leaks onto the EGR cooler.

Right now the car loses oil, I'm talking a litre or so a month, just recently I've now started to get blue smoke and this knock. Yet what really surprises me is how it drives, it's smooth and has plenty of power.. idle is good (especially concidering I have glow plug activation issue on all 6 cyclinders). I am currently trying to book it in with Paul (The BMW Independent Specialists, Hinckley) as I've heard really good reviews. I just need to get down to the bottom of it (hopefully not literally haha)

Is this the same knock you had a few months ago or a different knock? What mileage has the car done?

This is hearsay + some personal experience. Interested to hear if it's true.

Before an engine dies it will run better then it ever has for a brief moment. Like its last and final push before it dies

I was on the motorway with my first car which was driving beautifully, passing cars i thought it never could. As i turned off the motorway and stopped at a traffic light - almighty metallic thudding sound appeared from the engine. Managed to drive her home but it needed a new engine. Sad times.

Anyway i hope yours will be fine, i just wanted to share this in case the smoothness of your car gives you false hope.

Good luck buddy!

Hi mate,

144k full service history, I don't remember posting about any knock before? I do remember posting about a ticking sound which sounded like Hydraulic Valves but I'm sure this knock is new. Thankfully a BMW specialist is going to have a look at the car on Saturday so hopefully narrow down what's happening.

That's very interesting, so your not sure why it got so smooth before it died? I assumed it would be a knock like this that just gets worse and worse. So what exactly happened to your engine anyway mate, what went on it and what needed doing? I have a BMW specialist who's going to take a look on Saturday so hopefully I'll have an answer by then.

sounds like a normal engine,,videos are usually hopeless for folk to try and hear and diagnose,,also do you always have the engine acoustic cover off?this will deaden some noise.

Sorry mate cars been off the road for months so I've stopped doing things for now, that said I believe it may be the crankshaft pulley (damper) There's a squeek when I turn the engine off which a few people said it sounds like the pulley so I then searched for "crankshaft pulley knock" and sure enough some videos sounded very much like the dull knock I hear.

Haha, I can't remember when it was ever on, always done things to the car and I love ld fixing it anything I could if im honest.. just feels nice to sit in the car knowing it's in good nick. Ita been off the road for months though so ive not done anything.. that said I had reason to believe there may be a possibility that the crankshaft pulley could be causing the slight knock.. i did a thread some time ago about a squeek I had and it ended up with people saying its likely the crankshaft pulley, so.i watched videos about crankshaft pulley knock and there where a few videos that sounded like it.
