Is this sound the infamous rod knock?

E92 2007 N54, 130k miles. Is this sound the infamous rod knock or is it lifter? I tried purging after a long drive - hold rev at 4k for around 5 minutes. No change.

Take your auxiliary belt off and start it up, may be one of the drives bearings failed.

Does the sound change as you rev?

Yes, it increases repetition of the heavy loud tak-tak sound. It seems to lessen in volume after the car has been driven for a while - I barely hear it but it's there. Its loudest when the engine is cold (as in the videos) and then subsides as the engine warms up. I'll take another video when the car has been driven for a while.

Hard to tell from a video, but I don't think that's from the bottom end.

Either a noisy injector, fuel vent valve or something on the aux belt (bad pulley, power steering pump, alternator, AC compressor)

Yeah was going to say this as well. I've seen in this forum someone who thought they hard rod knock but turns out it was the AC pulley (If I recall correctly, one of the accessories for sure).

Easy test to do OP

I'd be absolutely astounded if it turned out to be the pulleys - but they may be original to the vehicle. I've had the vehicle used for now about 8 years and I've only changed the belt once, so sounds like I may be in for a shock.

I'll update ...

Agree with the above responses. What maintenance has been done? That sound isn't low enough in the engine bay. Sounds like the front or top of the engine. It's not a clanking metallic sound I've heard before.
My car makes a similar noise on cold start. Happy owner for 7 years. FBO for 2 years. 120k miles. Best of luck man!

I had a similar noise and it turned out to be one of my plugs got loose and the injector was missing the decoupler and bouncing in the injector bore lol.
