Original escort 8500 any good?

I have a chance to get one for a good deal $80. I am wondering if this radar is any good? Compared to lets say the $50 cobra? I just want a decent detector that can detect stuff from a reasonable distance. Not looking to spend $200-$400 on one.

It's better than the cheapies, but not nearly aa good as the 8500 x50. If it isn't an x50' the price is not a good deal.

I've always used a V1 and I love it. I don't have any experience with the escorts though.

I bought a Passport 8500 back in '00, and it's still saving me from tickets to this day. One of these days I'll buy a new one, but it's hard to justify the $$$ with this one still working well.

It works well for me. Except, this detector starts beeping when newer Audi is near by.
That is only con. I am not sure why but it "detects" newer Audi.

The 8500 is an excellent detector. My current X50 is marginally better; only replaced the 8500 due to failure. For $80, I'd be comfortable running the 8500.

Same problem with the V1 - it's the radar that the Audi's send out for their lane departure/blind spot sensors.
