ive got a bmw 730d f01 model which i had the glow plug controller replaced and then it showed glow plug 5 was faulty so i asked them to change it.

went to pick it up and they've told me that its snapped so cant replace it but saying it was already snapped?

they changed the control module a couple of days ago for which i told them to check the resistance of all the plugs in case they needed doing. they checked them all and all were working but no.5 was overloading according to the diagnostics.

so if they checked all plugs then and never mentioned of any snapped ones would it be possible they have snapped it today but are not owning up to it as the fix is not cheap i believe?

i personally think the young lad who done has snapped it, the main mechaninc never did the job himself but gave to another younger lad to do.

Can i prove in anyway he snapped it?

What is involved and the cost to fix it?

Finally the way to replace the controller and plugs is not as a bigger job as most bmw's as these are not directly under the manifold. its just a matter of gaining access and pulling it to the side.

any thoughts / advice appreciated?

Sadly seen this before usually die to carbon and the fact that when you look at a glow plug you'll find that due to construction a fair bit of the problem obviously lies with the different materials expanding with heat at different rates.

Our usual protocol is to get the engine red hot really hot to ensure you stand the best chance of getting everything to expand to enable easier extraction without compromising anything rule is even when the engines red hot if you feel any tension/resistance whatsoever when trying to undo a plug back off simple as if you continue to try to undo the plug chances are it'll either fracture or break you'll increase the risk of breakage when extracting a plug for a cool/cold engine without a doubt. A specialist may well be able to answer the question re how it came to be fractured broken in the first place
