Torque on the sway bar links are 43 ft/lbs
I'll check the steering rack as well. I had it off a few months ago when replacing pre-cat o2's but am almost positive its torqued up.
How old are the bushings on the sway bar itself?

His links have play it has to be that?

The only way I can see steering rack would affect is stationary and steering lock to lock and hearing some popping. Unless his rack would be basically not tightened at all, I fail to see how it would clunk when driving. I had my rack not torqued to the full 41 ft lbs + 90° and as soon did I did torque it completely to spec no more popping. But I never had clunking.

He could have mistaken a pop for a clunk?

I guess I would describe it more as a pop sound then a clunking sound

You are not changing a clunk to a pop, maybe it is time to take the car in to a shop and have them diagnose your problem.

Not a chance would I pay a shop to diagnose a problem, probably be able to by a whole new suspension for the cost of that. Shit aint cheap here down under.

Popping or clunking is subjective to who's hearing it.....either way there is an issue that I need to sort out

I'm ready to bet my money on links if you are unable to find anything else that is loose. Have you also done the wheel pull test. Although that would be more for tie rods.

Haven't done a wheel pull test but will try that.
I agree I thinks its the links, I don't think they should have that much play in them

I just checked the whole suspension on my car this week end part of a vehicle check and I'm surprised at 75k miles everything is tight and feels brand new apart from my front 2 links.

Why not just pull the links off and see if the pop or clunk disappears? Then you can say it really is the end links that are the issue.

Super curious to see what happens if he does. I drove for a week without endlinks as I waited for my adjustable ones to come in. With the old, new, or none at all I still get a clunk. Everything feels tight until its on the road

Ended up being the strut bar bolts were slightly loose, specifically the one at the back of the engine where the two bars meet.

Nice.

I just changed mine and my rare clunk is now completely gone.

I have to say the new end links weren't as tight as I expected it, so perhaps that is why my current clunking was only on rare occasions sand the problem was just starting to develop.

One possibility that often gets overlooked is your brake pads. Raise the car and take the wheels off. Grab a hold of the caliper with both hands and try to move it up and down along the path of the circumference of the rotor (it'll take some strength as it's heavy and in an awkward position to get good leverage.) A certain brake pad brand (Akebono) is known for having millimetrically undersized pads. The slop between the pads and caliper carrier on which they rest can cause an awful clunking sound as the caliper moves up and down with large (and sometimes small) articulations of the suspension.
Never heard this about Akebono pads. I switched them to Akebono about 3 months ago and no noises like this.

I think I found the source of my clunk.. Weird thing is the sway bar felt tight when I moved it around when I was searching for it months ago
