Loosing tyre pressure - no warnings

I seem to regular loose tyre pressure on my front and rear passenger side.

I normally inflate to 36psi all round, but these two tyres seem to drop fairly quickly down to around 21-25psi about a week or so later. The other two wheels seem to maintain their pressure.

I never get an alert on the dash saying that the pressure has dropped.

I assume its not a slow puncture.

Whats the best solution? I'll take it to a tyre place but wanted to know what my options are.

Inner tube? Could it be the actual rims?

I can tell you it won't be a problem with an inner tube, I can't recall a car using one (in modern times!). The tires are held on to the rim by a snug fit and the air pressure...

What you have described sounds like a slow puncture or a possible leaky valve. In slightly more extreme cases, you could have a cracked rim....

I would get to your local tyre fitters and get them to check for leaks......

I was loosing pressure from one of my front tyres, the tyre garage couldn't find a puncture, instead they found it was loosing air between the tyre and the rim. Just needed taking off, the rim cleaning up and remounting. Did the trick.

Might sound daft but check the valve cap, I had one tyre in the past that kept on losing air and when it was finally put in a tub of water to identify where from it turned out to be the valve cap. When it was off....no leak...put it on and the bubbles started up. I swapped all 4 and never had the deflating tyre problem again (bar the normal couple of psi over 2-3 weeks, though that could’ve been temperature related).

I am aware, that last year, the car failed its MOT for this reason:

Road wheel fractured both front and offside rear (4.2.B.1a)

But it then passed 2 days later so assuming repairs were made or the wheel replaced. The previous owner said he bought the car after that MOT and only had it a few months. I'm hoping that this isn't the cause.

I'll get it down to a tyre place and get them to inspect / re-seat the the tyre / install a tube if required.

Mine had a similar problem to yours...for weeks couldn't find a leak but went to change the Tyre and found that the alloy had a crack in it.

update.

Turns out the rear tyre had a screw in it - £18 to fix
Also turns out the car has the wrong size tyres. it has 225/45 and 225/40 instead of 225/40 and 225/35.

Also turns out, one of the previous welds on the front was leaking. They advised not to bother and just find a new wheel as there are 5 welds on the wheel, but having a super quick look on ebay in a rush, i didn't see much that didn't need a total refurb or that wasn't already damaged with previous welds, or anything for a sensible price. I wanted it sorted as i didn't really have time to shop around there and then and would find one later.

In haste of getting it sorted, i paid for a re-weld of all 5 as a fix, with a view to buy another wheel, then get all 4 refurbed. and keep the other wheel as a spare or sell? now i realise it was maybe a little waste of money but at least the wheel is good for a bit.

I've just found another wheel for £140
Then £220 for refurbs on all
Then £440ish for new rubber all round

also this month is service and MOT at around £300. Expensive month.

well, the mrs managed to burst both front and rear driver side tyres last week, a week before i was due to get the new tyres, so had to get them done early.

Got bridgestone s001's all round. So far so good.
Wheels being dropped off for refurb on saturday after service and MOT.

new rubber all round, and collected the refurbed wheels yesterday. They came out great. About to have them put on with some 12 and 15 mm spacers. Watch this space

all ready for stage 2 tomorrow

Some MOT inspectors are more thorough than others, I've had a cracked alloy get through an MOT.

I took my wheel to a main dealer and asked them to replace it - BMW UK paid for 80% of the cost.

OP as your wheels are already welded BMW will unlikely replace them - but to anyone reading this with freshly cracked alloys, I'd highly recommend this route before you consider getting them welded.

I think you meant 255/35 assuming you're running genuine 8.5j MV3 rims on the rear

No warranty or service plan, I'm not even the original owner. I asked if BMW would cover the cost, and they offered 80%.

It's a common issue in the UK, so certainly worth trying before you break out your wallet for a new wheel.
