E90 N43 engine - takes long to warm up

Hi to every one here... this is my first pots.

Car: E90 316i 2009 N43 engine
The Issue:
i had the car for about 2 months now, as the weather is getting very cold these days (-10 c)(Scandinavia) i am feeling that the car is taking long to warm up.
for example: after about 10 min of idling (ambient temp -9c) coolant is still at 30c and the ice on the windshield has not even started to melt.
the car eventually warms up and dose not over heat (coolant at 96 - 102 c)
suspecting that the thermostat is stuck open.
any way to test that without taking it off the engine as it is in a difficult place to reach.
i have access to IASTA and can use that.

Thanks in advance

I take it that you have the cabin heating fans on during this warm up procedure. Turn them off. leave them off until you know that the engine temp is up. That minus 10 is the killer.

thanks for the reply.
yes cabin heating is always on either on auto or on deice, I am comparing to my previous car (Mazda 3) after 10 min of idling it would be worm enough to start driving.

If the thermostat is stuck open the radiator will gradually warm up. If stat is working the rad will warm very quickly. Hold your hand on the top hose in engine bay.

My N43 takes too long to warm up too, even running on the motorway it seems to stay at the 75 degree mark for ages, suspect Stat is stuck or not fully closing, sometimes even after a 20 min commute, it will not pass 90 degrees, only gets up to the proper 95 degrees if stationary for a while, i.e no airflow to the rad.

if its getting to 90degrees the stat will not be stuck open...when mine were gone, the car wouldnt get to 83 degrees,

Check if your car has an auto rad blind and is it working.

the specs for the stat on our cars is 97 and 102
mine will reach between 97 and 102 after about 20 min of driving with ambient around 0c, but in minus 10 c it takes longer and once it reach there some times it would drop quickly around 80 and it then starts to pick up gain.
once back in September (ambient +9c) with me revving up the engine and AC is off while standing, temp reached 108 before the ecu did something and the temp went back to 99.
these seems to me to be normal, what is bothering me is that it takes really long to worm from cold start at idle.

Air vents in front of the radiator open or close depending on the environmental temperature and road speed and shorten the engines warm up time. These were standard on the SE models but not the Sport model. I do not know if they are still fitting them on later models.

Depends on ambient temp, speed etc. most of commute is 40/50 mph.
It's definitely not right, as I said maybe not fully closing, or sticky.
