Stock brake pads/rotor OR something better?
This has probably been discussed but the latest thread I found was from 2019.
2006 E90 325i, rear brake pads and rotors need replacing. Daily driver, zero tracking, zero spirited driving. Rotors: OEM , Zimmermann (or are they the same?), Meyle? Pads: OEM, Brembo, Pagid, Akebono? BTW Turner Motorsport has this kit for sale Rear Brake component kit:$195.00 free shipping - Akebono Euro Rear Brake Pads - Zimmerman Rear Rotors - New Rear Wear Sensors - Brand New Stainless Steel Set Screws - Syl-Glide Silicone Brake Lubricant Last edited by azzurribaggio; 07-01-2021 at 10:45 PM.. |

OEM=supplier OE=BMW part. Brake supplier for E90: ATE, Jurid, Textar, Pagid, Brembo (calipers on performance package, jurid pads). Akebono was never nor it will be supplier for BMW. Zimmerman is always safe bet when it comes to rotors. But other I listed are too. If you want aggressive initial bite go OEM pads and not Akebono. Jurid is probably least dusty of all. Glide pins are dry pins. Clean them and put back. |

I bought that kit for the front of my E92 and will do the same when it’s needed on the rear. I have seen minimum brake dust in the four months I’ve run them.

I went with the Turner Motorsport rear brake package.
Don't think I could go wrong with the components with it being on sale for July 4th was a no brainer. |

Akebono if you want zero dust. Pagid or Textar if you want the same OEM brake feel but deal with more dusting. All of the brands are quality and great options. Don't worry about brake lube. They all come with a small pack, and you don't need to lube the slide pins. I have Zimmermann and Akebono on all 4 corners. No complaints after about 500-700 miles of breaking in. |

I have tried a ton of different brake combos. My favourite is Zimmerman rotors with hawk 5.0 pads. It's my daily and they are great.
Avoid anything stop tech . All made in China now.

Daily driver, nothing spirited. Get Zimmerman rotors with akebono pads. No dust, no noise. Only downside is that they don't bite as hard as the semimetallic oem pads. Jurid/Textar are also good too. You can't go wrong with any of them.

I agree with Bimmer_Bro. Upgrade to Hawk 5.0 pads and you won't be disappointed! Much less brake dust and the stopping power is good. I daily drive and do spirited road trips in the summer. The 335i is the perfect mix for road trips and blasting the twisty mountain roads. Only reason I'm still driving the thing after all these years

No. Just put a dab of grease or anti-seize on them and reuse it.

When the fronts come due, I'm going to swap to ATE semi-metallic or go back to BMW OE on all four. |

I think that most of the veterans here will suggest the Zimmerman/Akebono kits are outstanding, nearly no brake dust and close to stock bite.
