Smog Test

Was a little worried with all the talk about new Calif smog tests, new rules to check for tunes and automatic fail. Decided to just go in and try, mind you it's just an A A tune but... Passed, ten minutes in and out 40$

Well I found this useless because most users are running Stage 2 or Custom tunes with deleted cats so the secondary oxygen sensors and catalyst monitors will always be incomplete. Most of us will need to install the stock down-pipes and flash back to stock a find a spot that will visually pass us for other bolted up crap on the car. For those running a stage 1 tune that does not require bolt-on mods will now fail even with the monitors ready IF the smog device "reads or finds" a tune lol. California is lame as fuck.

Whats the consensus on this? Im trying to sell my 335i do i need to run the stock TMAP as well to run the stock tune or does the stage 0 mhd work? I heard bmw has to flash the factory bin file to pass but im not sure.

Stock TMAP because when you go back to the stock tune it wont register the 3.5 bar TMAP. I don't even think it will pass with Stage 0 since it can be detected now so you will need to go back to stock flash and do the drive cycle.

Just smogged my car a bit ago. I had to flash back to stock...remove mhd ..not map 0 cause they will pick it up. Put my stock air box on..my cowl cover etc. Ran the DP fix for the obvious reason. Got the car monitors on full ready and no cell. Now here is the tricky part.. before I always did this and the smog tech didn't do a full visual inspection. He's moved out of Cali so I had to try other shops. I went to 3 different shops...they allllll looked for all 4 cats. It appears since the n54 scene has grown as it has...they all know what to look for. 2 of these techs told me that exactly. I've owned my e90 for 10 years never had issues untill this year. Had to throw on my stick cats and he passed it. They know what to look for now. Good luck

Thanks for the info. Good to hear flash back to stock works fine with no issues. I usually throw on stock DP, airbox, etc when I smog so they don't even question anything, just makes it less stressful

so I didnt do a backup of the original file. So am I screwed now? stage 0 isn't going to do it anymore? I always put the stock CP and air box back on. Just the FMIC stays and that worked before.

Just flash back to stock, you don't need your backup. MHD has backup files of the original software(the most up to date version)

Just got her smogged today. Just flash back to stock as was mentioned. I left the Charge pipe (black with DV ports so its not obvious) , and FMIC on. Just put the stock air box on and the stock tune did the trick. Have stock exhaust so no worries there. Time to reflash MHD. I think I'll try V10 now.
