M47 glow plug faults

The mrs has been complaining about rough running and starting issues when cold on her 2006 120d with the M47 engine. I immediately thought glow plug controller. I've scanned it with Carly and got the following codes:

004212 Glow plug cyl 1 control
004222 Glow plug cyl 2 control
004232 Glow plug cyl 3 control
004242 Glow plug cyl 4 control

I'm guessing as it's all 4 glow plugs that it's likely to be the controller, so best to replace this first?

Oh and how hard is it to replace the controller on the M47 compared with the N57? My mate replaced mine on my 330d N57 easily in about 15mins without having to remove the inlet manifold.

I did mine in about the same time from the top. Easy if you don't drop the nuts that hold it on!!

Unclip the water hose from the inlet manifold and hold to one size with a bungee or such to give yourself more hand room. 😉

Glow plug module replaced and all faults have cleared, so fingers crossed all will be good when we have another cold snap.
