Air Recirc Filter

Wondering if anyone has fitted one to the passenger footwell intake?

Seems like a dumb design that recirculated air is not re-filtered.

On my E32, the filter was right in front of the evap, so it fresh or recirced air was filtered.

Never seen modern car have filtered recirc air. Don't see why it would be needed.

This would be why https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1075529.

Also there are some modern cars which have a filter only on the recirc, not the fresh haha.

IMO though I don't think it would prevent that. I never really run the car in recirc mode and still get some smells sometimes.

It's just water/moisture on the evaporator in which bacteria thrives which causes smells.

This is the way I was seeing it, I may be wrong.

If the evap is squeaky clean, the bacteria won't have any organic material to eat. It's the dust, hair, skin cells, etc that accumulate on the evap combined with condensation moisture that results in smells.

That's why so many folks have noticed (and given advice) there are less smells if they avoid using the recirc mode. That's because the fresh air mode maintains filtration purity.

Also, smells aside, I wouldn't mind having recirculated air filtered just to remove the dust that gets kicked up in the footwell. Kinda gross to think it sucks all the up and blows it back at my face.

Also the F15 (modern-ish BMW X5) has a recirc filter in addition to its fresh air filter. So BMW enginerds saw a need.

I use the recirc when I need extra ac boost but the car switches to fresh air after so many minutes I remember reading which is pretty cool. Just dry the evap before you park
