(Updated 2.14.15) Strange sound from my new VRSF CP w/C clip

Just went full bolt on (all VRSF) and I'm getting this embarrassing high pitched squeak when I go over 8psi. Sounds like when you are bleeding a balloon or raping a hamster; not that I would know what that really sounds like.

As it's more prevalent on the driver's side, I'm guessing that it's the CP and not the 5" stepped FMIC.

I'm currently in the midst of an etune and PTF says my maps look good. So I don't believe that I have a big enough leak to experience a notable drop off in pressure.

I've already tightened down the meth bung, which I'm not using.

Has anyone else experienced this ?

ETA: 2/14/15

I think I found my hamster:

If you look at the highlighted area, you can see the sheen of an oil spray on the right hand half, of the edge of the silicone connector and it's on the pipe as well. So I'll be scheduling a visit with the installer.

The amount of oil (this is on the inbound side of the FMIC) is also making me reconsider the merits of the Oil Catch Can on the N55 platform. I've seen quite a few threads saying it's not needed, but that seems like a good amount of oil, that's headed towards the engine.

You deff have a boost leak. Did you put the O-ring in the CP? Otherwise it is a leak turbo to IC or IC to CP.

I had the same sound with my last EVO. Never really could track it down. High pitch means a very small leak. It was holding 28psi even with the sound, so I just dealt with it.

That's interesting, if it was that loud I would imaging it would be a decent size leak which may be detectable from your logs you send to PTF.

Keep us posted.

I've heard of some of the electrical connections omitting a loud whining sound when at WOT with the JB4 before. Could this be it?

Make sure you the clip fully clamps down on the throttle body. Kind put some pressure on the underside and muscle the CP on there. It should fit well just really need to make sure it is completely on there.

I had the exact same issue with my VRSF. You should contact Tiago. He walked me through some trouble shooting steps and made everything was squared away. All good now!

You paid for the nicer clip with the VRSF CP right? Any leak codes from your Cobb AP?

I have the same sound on my n55, er cp, vrsf ic. Its been doing it since I have put them in and have gone over all the clamps and its still there, I've gotten used to it now and consider it quite normal... My er cp uses the c clip as well and its on there with the o-ring. You can see maybe half a mm of the charge pipe is "off" from the throttle body, but I figure since the clip is in it would be airtight with the seal?

Let me know if you figure this out OP, I'd love to get rid of that sound. My jb4 also reaches its targets without issues.

Ah - I am glad you said that. My ER CP is the same - it looks like it "slid" off a tiny bit but the C-Clip is in place. I am glad to hear I am not the only one.

That said, I don't get the sound you and the OP get.

put old pipe back on, see if it goes away. if not, not your cp... if it is, something is installed incorrectly, or a flawed item.

Did you put Teflon tape on the threads of the meth bung plug?

ill give that a shot.

In the mean time I sent Tiago a PM, inquiring about a thicker o-ring for the CP and one of the FMIC clamps was bent on the clasp itself, out of the box; I assumed that it had righted itself when it was bolted down.

Thankfully the PTF tune makes it impossible for someone to catch up with me, to see if the hamster is OK

I know we sent a couple messages back and fourth but I'll just post this in case anyone has this problem in the future and searches.

When installing couplers/clamps with a bead you should always try to seat the t-bolts and make sure they're tight enough. The t-bolts should be placed directly after the bead on each side. If placed on the bead it may cause a leak.

I usually tighten the t-bolts with a socket wrench and hold it near the head of the wrench. Once I notice a fair bit of resistance I'll give it one more turn and move onto the next. Use your free hand to hold the t-bolt square agains the bead, when you tighten the t-bolt, the band will try to move out of position.

Our charge pipes also include a thicker o-ring in order to create a larger surface seal. The included o-ring must be used. The pre-plugged meth bung should have arrived pre-tightened but it can't hurt to double check. The meth bungs are pre-tapped using a NPT thread which is tapered. It should not require teflon or any sealant but you can use one or two layers of teflon tape if you'd like to eliminate the possibility of the bung being the culprit.

It should be mentioned that when you install an intake, intercooler or chargepipe that there will be a more pronounced turbo spool noise so it isn't irregular to hear a more pronounced high pitched whine. A lot of people confuse this whine with a leak
