sws-8xi problems
I bought a couple of SWS-8Xis to replace the stock 8s under the seats in my e93. For clearance I had to shave the bottom of the enclosure and fabricated about a 3/8's spacer in the enclosure. I chose to leave the top cover off so that they don't hit anything under the seat.
I noticed that running from the stock L7 amp I could easily bottom them out with bass settings about 2 to the right of the middle on my idrive bass settings. Last week I hooked up a Rockford P500-2 via a that puts out 250x2 (slightly overpowered I know). While this made them a little louder I still can easily bottom them out with the idrive bass boost at 1 bar below the middle & amp gains about 30%. Is there anything that I am missing or am I just asking too much from these subs? They definitely have a better/deeper sound than the stock system but I would think that I could turn them up as loud as the stock woofers without bottoming them out. |

They are either out of phase (one of them wired backwards) or not completely sealed to the enclosure...

A 3/8" spacer is too thick. You are shoving the woofer up too high when it doesn't have clearance. Some people use 1/4" spacers, but ours are steel sheet and not even 1/8". I think your woofer is not bottoming out, I think it's striking something above it.
And they really aren't subs. They need to play like 200 and down, and there really isn't that much 50 and down action from them. They have a lot of 60-80, though. You should test with the tone controls and EQ settings all centered. The <edited to add:ignore> Last edited by VP Electricity; 06-09-2011 at 01:28 PM.. |

thought so but even with the seat removed I can physically see that they aren't hitting anything. But let me revisit the spacer and make sure they are sealed. It's OK to leave the vent in the enclosure that goes door sills?

Most probably either the OEM amp or the SWS-8Xi got damaged by the initial load instability if you keep hearing the pops/thuds with an aftermarket amp installed. Another possibility is that your LOC used to interface the OEM amp to the P500-2 cannot handle the 70W peak of the OEM amp woofer outputs so it is complaining about it. Definitely something got really messed up somewhere. |

yeah seems there is confusion on bvauto on whether I needed 2 ohm or 4 ohm speakers when i put my e93 in. I ordered the 4 ohm versions and they should be here Tuesday. For now I dropped my stocks back in and they are working off the stock amp with no problems. I'll try again next week with the proper hardware.

Put the 4 ohm versions in last night and they sound OK but definitely not as loud as the 2 ohm and (unamped) probably not worth the cash. I'm going to amp them next and see how they sound.
