Exclamation Overheating Issue

Hello.
new to the forum. I have just bought a 2009 335i with 110k Miles
Before purchase, owner told me the thermostat will need to be replaced.

After I got the car, I scanned it. Codes read as followed.

2E81 - Electrical coolant pump; speed deviation
2E83 - Electric coolant pump; power reduced operation.
2E84 - Electric coolant pump; missing
2E85 - Electric coolant pump; missing
29F3- Fuel low pressure sensor; electric
2A7C - VANOS; control, intakae, cold start
3100 - Boost pressure control, deactivation

I brought the car to an indy shop, had him replace the thermostat to see if that would fix the problem. On the way home I got yellow overheat symbol, then red. Turned car off, sat for a bit then back on. Ran fine. Same thing happened a few more times over the weekend. Temps were around 120C then when i restarted back down to 90c-105c.

Brought the car back in, because I noticed a leak coming from the coolant expansion tank very slighlty. Little traces of coolant over the tank and on engine cover/ My tank was also empty after driving over the weekend after i was greeted with a low coolant symbol. Proceeded to fill with distilled water. Haven't got to scan the car again because its currently at the shop, so I'm not sure if the coolant pump codes are still there.

Is my problem leading to the coolant pump? The mechanic told me that it had recently been changed, so I haven't given it much thought that it would need replacement. Any other ideas why my car could be overheating?

Edit: Also heater and AC both working. Could this be water temp sensor problem?

Pretty clear - you need a new pump.

It is the waterpump. It has probably been replaced once already and on other cars that would mean you should be ok. Not for the e90. The waterpumps seem to last only 50-70K miles.

Have them check the wiring/connector to the water pump, maybe some shorted/broken wires as I know those wire get very brittle from the hear in that area.

Edit: What codes are showing up still, any?

Update: So I'm still getting these codes after driving the car for a bit after getting it back.

I checked the fuse related to the waterpump, and also the thing on top of the battery.

Car runs better but it ran hot on me after over 30-45 minutes of constant driving.

Scanned the car, and i still have these codes.

2E81 - Electrical coolant pump; speed deviation
2E83 - Electric coolant pump; power reduced operation.
2E84 - Electric coolant pump; missing
2E85 - Electric coolant pump; missing
29F3- Fuel low pressure sensor; electric

I think my last option is just to change the waterpump now... anyone else got input?

It was pretty clear from your first post you needed a water pump

EDIT: let me walk that back - could be electrical problem although I'd expect additional codes. Make sure the main fuse for the pump (it on the battery) has not blown

Second EDIT: Duh.... I see you've already checked that fuse. My bad

Wait so mechanic said pump is brand new as in he installed a new one or as in it looks new?

With those codes I still think a new water pump would be something to try.

Yes. he checked it out and said that the water pump was recently replaced.
So he didn't touch it.
Maybe it's just a bad unit overall?
