335i coolant & oil temperature range
I'm using OBD2 bluetooth with Torque app to monitor coolant temperature. Drove about 15 miles at 65 mph, coolant temperature range would cycle from 195*f to 214*f max...sometimes it would only go up to 218* then back down. Btw, my oil temp gauge on dash showed 240*f...which seems hot also...Normal reading? And ambient temp of 80*f. I'm new to BMW's and just wondering if these are normal temperatures? Thks...

Coolant temperature is optimized by the DME by operating the pump intermitently and closign the thermostat to raise the temperature, or operating the pump faster and running the fan when too hot. It should read around 96-98 celcius when the car has warmed off and the fan is off.

If you read the manual you would have read that the waterpump is variable, meaning if your ripping your car its going to spin faster and drop the temps, if your cruising its going to slow down and bring up the temperature which results in better mpg.
Your temps are fine, i generally cruse around 212-215f and oil is anywhere from 220-240f and on track days 280f |

Lastest BMW event! been monitoring the engine coolant temp via bluetooth OBD2 reader...for about 5 street driving event, normal driving, the temp has been 195...maybe 215, but then drops back to 195'ish. now my last drive home yesterday, cruising at 55 mph, 67* air temp engine running at 195....then it shoots up to 240* light comes on, pull of the road, let it idle...approx 5 minutes, it would not get any cooler then 237*. engine off, popped hood, then started car...ShaZam temp dropped back to 195 is a few minutes...fine for the last of the 20 miles home. Let engine cool and checked coolant level...it's good. Now, I don't think a thermostat fails in this manor...at least in the USA manufactures cars...not sure about the 335i if it's the standard spring operated Tstat. Now the variable speed water pump...Humm, I'm thinking this is the issue...OR the device driving the water pump. Turning the engine off then back on it started to cool/circulate coolant again. How the question...can the Torque andriod app monitor the water pumps RPM's? My mechanics XYZ diagnostic analyzer tool can via the OBD2 port.
